This set was never the best, but has progressively gotten worse over the years. It could really use an update. Currently the set bonuses are:
(2) 1206 Max Health
(3) 1096 Max Magicka
(4) 129 Spell Damage
(5) Gain Minor Force at all times, increasing critical damage by 10%
So I like the idea of this set, it gives an alternative to using Channeled Acceleration for Minor Force. In this way it saves a skill bar slot and having to manage a buff, very similar to sets like Treasure Hunter (Major Prophecy) and (Major Sorcery). However both of these other sets recognize that an easily-obtained named buff is not enough of a 5-pc set bonus, so each brings an additional 100 spell damage. Similarly, the Mighty Chudan set brings Major Ward and Resolve, but again these easily obtained buffs were deemed unworthy of a final set bonus so an additional 1206 Health was included too.
Probably the best example of a similar set is Tzogvins, since it provides exactly the same buff (minor force). It also has much better 2-4 piece bonuses: 2X Crit and 1X Penetration. Additionally it provides up to 1290 Crit Chance (5.9%) with an easy to maintain condition. And if this set is used on a single bar. both the 5.9% Crit and the Minor Force carry over to the other bar for up to 10 seconds. Ideally we’d simply get a Magicka equivalent to Tzogvins, but that could easily be taken care of with a Medusa update.
I believe that in the past it was slightly better. Minor Force used to be 12% Crit Damage, so 20% better than the current buff. Also we did not have an effective Shadow Mundus Stone, so Crit damage multiplier was more important. Also we had fewer CP’s so crit damage was more valuable without so much investment in Elfborn (now pretty much every build is getting 16-23% Crit damage from there).
So my request is for something to be added to the 5pc, whether it’s a mirroring of Tzogvins, or just another standard set bonus. And while we’re at it, the health bonus could be replaced with Spell Crit or Spell Pen, something a little more useful to PVE damage builds. I don’t even mind that it’s heavy armor, with jewelry crafting this can easily be incorporated into Magicka DPS builds.
