Trying to play legit

So I rolled my Necro. Used only 50 CPs. Wearing dropped armor. No cash since I bought my first horse training, so no food buffs. I wanted to play as a somewhat new player with a little CP boost.

I'm doing the zone quests. Part three I have to kill a dragon. I know I'm not a great player but man it's tough to fight with no resources at level 8. I'm sure I could get my crafter to make up some armor and weapon. Maybe buy some low level gear. Craft up some food and spend all my CPs. Then kill that dragon. How the heck is a new player supposed to do it?

Well... Dragons are meant to be on a similar level as Trial bosses, which might make them rather tough.

If a new player and you see a big ass dragon: You stick close to players and hope you don't get melted.

Wait, a zone quest requires a world boss group?

New players should not fight dragons, specially a total new player, like first timers playing eso.

They will get hurt a lot.

I think it is an instance? I left the quest and it rebooted one step earlier

Kudos, first thing i usually do is spec all CP and fab some vampire’s kiss gear as it helps with the grind.

Oh, interesting! Thanks for the update :)

I remember resource management being next to impossible when I first started. That Summerset house event reminded me how rough it was without CP when I did the first story quest on the EU server.

I spent most of my time on my first toon in this game using a resto staff because every skill costs so much.

I guess I might have to do that. The quest is called battle for Riverhold where you shoot the dragon with a ballista. When it lands I can barely hurt it. I'm sure it is an instance

Added my CPs, crafted some armor. Switched to bow for aoe and to keep distance. Dragon had a lot of pbaoe.

    I don't think that's good design tbh

I try to level most of my alts with dropped gear and no CP. Haven't tried this quest, but actually like the first 20 levels or so. The lower my level; the more powerful I typically feel. So it's easier to kill a delve boss at lvl 14 as compared to level 42.

That dragon is a story dragon not a world boss level one. I died to him 5 times at lvl 16 before I killed him. And no I not a top player by any means...

because its not for new players ?, the dragons is designed like a trial boss, albeit easier, i'm happy we actually get more "harder" overworld content

Food scales too. I did some simple level 1 cooking and the food buffs my stam by more the 7k for 35 mins.

I'm inclined to agree... Kind of negates characters who focus on melee if doing melee guarantees you lose.

The dragon in the tutorial will run away at 75% damage. I did that with just the two hand sword, one skills and think one piece or armor. Not standing in front of him help. Yes if you have agro all the time you probably get problems but its many npc who will take it. Think they will also hold boss up if you die so he will not reset.

Did one dragon with an zerg afterwards, just dropped gear, got reward even if late to fight and just dropped gear.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

I have completed the main quest line that requires fighting dragon. If this is that fight and Tharn is with you then the spoiler explains the fight.
It is not a real fight. Dragon is shielded and does not take damage but dishes it out. Just avoid the damage. The center circle turns green, stand inside of that circle and wait for the synergy to appear. That will knock the dragon down and they take damage briefly. Actually, I think that does the damage . Anyhow, rinse and repeat until boss is down.

Very important to have an understanding of the class when you fight more challenging monsters.

New players especially need to learn avoidance techniques etc to go defensive and offensive at the right time, old players just yawn through it, but that’s to their intimate knowledge of game mechanics .

I think he's referring to the last fight of the battle for riverhold where you knock him down with a ballista. I can't survive it either

Correct. I just beat the final quest boss which is as the spoiler describes.

The ballista boss I had to CP up and change to bow to finally defeat him. A new player with patchwork armor and no CPs will have a very very tough time beating him

Very true, but you won't finish that part of the quest, so you won't be able to finish the zone quest.

I totally get it, but this is an open world game. The nature of open world games is that you might get to a spot in one quest line that you cant complete at a given level, but the good news, there are about 500 other quest lines you can use to level up a bit in the meantime. At level 8, you dont even have two skill bars to work with and almost no passives to speak of. In fact, I would be pretty disappointed if you could easily kill a dragon at level 8, as it would mean that they are a bunch of pansies.
