You didn't even think to ask anyone "hey, is this a bug, or anyone know how I can get my free slot"? you just immediately bought another? ...

I don't expect free stuff. I'm used to paying for my stuff, so I assumed I had to pay for a slot, as I had none available in the character select screen. To learn that ZOS had offered one but put it behind a log in/log out procedure just makes me think they wanted to catch the odd distracted player such as me. It's not serious, I only play when I sub and have 20k+ crowns because I've never bought anything other than DLC and character slots. But it feels like a(nother) shady move by ZOS.
Uh, I think you're misusing the whole Stockholm syndrome comparison. No one here's being held captive by ZOS or anything. You can defend someone or thing without being labeled as a Stockholm victim.Gotta love the Stockholm syndrome here. Yes, blame the player who's excited to make their first character with the new class for the new expansion. Because it would have been impossible for ZOS to simply add the free slot to the character select screen. People ARE impulsive. ZOS seems to rely on it for the few extra dollars. Anyway, as I said, I have plenty of crowns because I have little use for those funny money units. Just find these practices objectionable.

Beyond that, what people are saying is instead of having a knee-jerk reaction and assuming you had to 'buy' the free slot, then blaming ZOS when that isn't the case, you really could have taken a few minutes to check the forums and make sure it wasn't something called a bug or glitch. Essentially people are saying you could have done a bit of research instead of jumping to conclusions, which to be fair, is it entirely unexpected of someone to double-check something before making a decision?
For the record it was like this on the PTS too, and ZOS didn't mention it in the patch notes. That leads me to believe it's not intended, as I don't think it was in the live patch notes either (though I haven't read the live notes yet). I highly doubt this is anything to do with ZOS trying to scam people out of money. Most peoples' first reaction, if told they'd receive something for free and they don't get it, isn't to buy what they were told they'd get for nothing. Generally people will do a bit of digging and searching before coming to any given conclusion. If this were some ploy on ZOS' part to get more money, it's a really really poor ploy.
Okay see, here's the thing. The forums exist. Information exists. Checking for that information doesn't take more than a minute or two to scan the forums. You couldn't take a handful of minutes to actually make sure what was happening wasn't a bug or a glitch? And that's ZOS' fault? There is literally nothing to question, and like I mentioned already, I'm fairly certain this wasn't intended since I don't recall it being mentioned in the PTS patch notes and everyone had the problem with getting their free slots on the PTS. But fine, overlook that part because it interferes with what you want to believe as a 'shady practice'.Substitute white-knighting for the Stockholm syndrome thing if you will. I just get annoyed at the defence of questionable practices. To be clear, and this will be my last post here since there really is nothing more I have to add:
- Players shouldn't be expected to check the forums for any reason unless they run into a problem they can't solve otherwise.
- It shouldn't be hard to add a free slot to players' accounts on first login, so the log into a character and back out to character select is jumping through hoops.
- I already had the crowns, and I will make more than one new character, so I will be using the free slot that eventually showed up. I have suffered nothing with this. I am questioning the practice itself, because it might cause someone without an existing crown balance to go out and buy a crown pack unnecessarily.

If they go out of the game to buy crown pack instead of checking the issue then this is a really silly thing to do. At this point you're the one that's white-knighting for people who make stupid decisions in life.I am questioning the practice itself, because it might cause someone without an existing crown balance to go out and buy a crown pack unnecessarily.
You can’t blame zos for that you should have asked it’s common sense that is what the forums are for.
