PC-EU Lightning Staff Heavy Attacks are behaving differently to pre-Elsweyr

As per the title, previously a HA would stop if an enemy died while it was being channeled. Now it seems to continue to target the corpse until the HA is completed. Presumably restoration staff attacks work in the same way but I've not tested it.
Is this intended behaviour? I've not seen it mentioned anywhere else.
