Optimisation in this game is so bad it's not even funny

Yeah I get 55 fps ( settings are the ones game chose on startup ) in Shimmerene docks ( and many other places ). This is absolutely ridiculous. This are my pc specs:

MSI GAMING X TRIO
RTX 2080 TI i9-9900K OC 4,7 Ghz ( Watercooled )
MSI MEG ACE Motherboard
64GB Corsair Vengence RGB PRO 3600 Mhz
Samsung SSD M.2 970 PRO 1 TB

I wish Zenimax would do something with optimizing their game, this encludes fixing latency issues.

Strange, my setup isa bit worse than yours, and I get constant 90-100 FPS in all PvE zones, except for some rare hicups, but they only last a few seconds and only happen when there is really a ton of stuff around...

What resolution are you running at? I get 100 FPS running at 1440p almost everywhere other than Cyrodiil or a really busy town and my specs are similar to yours (CPU is at 5.2ghz and ram is 4400mhz). I’m running at max settings for everything other than shadows.

I am not sure what my PC specs are. I get on average 35-38 FPS. No lag, I am very happy.
The only lag I get is when MM does it thing at start up ( I run approx. 50+ addons with no problems ).

My resolution is 1440p and I get 120-53 fps. Depends on the place. While just exploring out of the city I get around 100 fps. Whilst in the city I sometimes drop to 50 fps. All settings ultra shadows ultra. All other games I play run amazingly. For example I get almost 140 fps while playing The Division 2 on ultra.

That is where all the scripts are.

Well that’s not too bad then. As mmorpgs go ESO isn’t that bad in terms of graphics performance (lag is a whole different issue however) it’s pretty much on par with games like FFXIV. Warcraft performs better but the graphics are also a lot simpler (in my opinion anyway). The thing about mmorpgs is the engine is designed to cope with such a wide range of hardware from your budget laptop up to high end gaming PCs that it is difficult to optimise it for each segment between those two. They just try to find a good median that still gives a pretty looking game at the high end and a playable game at the low end. Sure you could move the game to a newer engine but that would usually mean upping the min requirements and you risk losing player base because people can’t upgrade.

Games like The Division 2 usually have a smaller delta between the min and recommended specs and are targeted more at the mid to higher end PC gaming rig so they are much better optimised for that hardware range as they aren’t expecting many people to try to run it on a budget laptop.

I get a max of 30fps, which crashes down to a 1 - 5 when going across Alinor.

I5 7th gen, GTX 1060, 16 GB ram. Most of my settings are maxed in the game. I get a steady 60 FPS almost everywhere in this game. The one main exception is Cyrodiil. Only other time I see a dip is when I first zone in to some areas. After a few seconds everything is stable at 60 FPS again, even in highly populated cities. Alinor can get some dips in some areas even after zone in.

    Ryzen 2600 with 1080ti.

I get 120 fps most of the time except when it's important like in a trial. I get around 34fps in trial fights which makes it really hard to weave.

Ping usually sits around 120ms but I often get spikes to 2-300ms.

Point 1 - The game is barely optimized for GPU’s. Having SLi 1080ti is actually worse off than running it non SLi.

Point 2 - Even slight core overclocks without raising the temperature more than a couple degrees will benefit a lot.

Point 3 - Unpark your CPU cores

Point 4 - DSR rendering by Nvidia control panel or Geforce Experience will make things look pretty but will tank your FPS greatly. Let the application decide 3D settings etc.

Search the forums for more registry fixes if you still want to tinker.

It may be, but like I said I have no lag ( except when MM updates ) and that is fine with me.

This may be a silly question: What difference would there be with a faster frame rate? I know it would not be lag, because I have none.

Supposedly more fps makes the flicker glitch more annoying. (I'm at 75 max cause my cheap 1440 display cant do better and its headache inducing already.)

I've found in MMOs over the years that it's often the players with the best or worst machines that have the biggest performance issues, probably because those with mid-range machines are playing on the level of hardware on which the game was developed and tested. I've also noticed that the people who actually check their FPS and ping are the most likely to complain about them, most players with few if any performance issues have any reason to even check those things.

In any event, giving the bare basics of a machine's specification misses out so many other things that are likely to be as critical to performance if not more so - addons, drivers (use proven ones, not necessarily the latest just because they're the latest), operating system, style of gameplay, wireless or cabled connections for modem, mouse and keyboard (or is it controller), and is it exclusive internet access or are you playing an online game while someone else is watching Netflix? Where in the world are you playing from and on which server, as well as through which ISP, not to mention what are your game settings?

There are just so many variables at play here, and simply following the old "My machine meets the minimum specs and besides I know it's not my machine because I built it myself" line simply doesn't cut it these days  !

Do not know what to tell you but I know players with lesser machines (but still water cooled) getting better FPS in trials that test a rig more than most things in the game. I have raided with players that get 100 FPS and pretty sure they said they were running on the highest settings.

The i-9 is pretty much doing nothing more than an i-5 as ESO runs mostly off of one core. I do not think many MMORPGs are doing a lot to support multi-core but that will probably come around more with time.
