Found a method to make treasure maps actually profitable and less of a pain in the ass to do. Works with survey reports too if you have a stockpile of them.

Basic steps:
1 - get a bunch of the same map in mail / banker
2 - go to map location
3 - dig up treasure
4 - run a few yards away
5 - get new map in inventory
6 - go dig it up

Repeat as necessary. Video here if that’s not clear:

Yeah, do that all the time...still a pain that probably isn't worth it.

I do that for crafting maps, but:
    • They stack without effort.
    • They give more valuable returns than treasure maps.
    • I still don't bother to do them very often.

Treasure maps? They should be called "Trash maps". :D

Agree with all these points, but it was a trick that netted me 3 x purple Bahraha rings when I couldn’t find any in stores and blues were listing for 30k. In any case, it’s a rng way of getting set pieces faster than grinding if you can’t afford the regular market.

I did this for awhile before getting burnt out on it, but it was a very effective way to level jewelry crafting on my alts. Anecdotally I had about a 50% return on a ring or necklace from the treasure maps, and all those CP160 jewelry pieces add up quickly.

I also checked the other day and I have 764 malachite shards sitting in my craft bag from those same chests. Not that I'll ever need 76 pieces of malachite, but just an interesting byproduct.

It became somewhat profitable too because I would only target maps that provided in-demand set items, and further refined my map purchases to those that were immediately adjacent/convenient to wayshrines to minimize my horseback time.

What's the most valuable item that you got from a Treasure Map?

Personally? - A Buoyant Armiger chest motif chapter back when they were still easily worth six figures.

    Runner-ups:
    • sharpened spriggan's dagger (when sharpened was BiS)
    • infused mother's sorrow inferno staff
    • sharpened spinner's inferno staff
    • reinforced plague doctor shield
    • various purple jewelry of meta set of the month

Note: List reflects value at the time I found them, not current market pricing.

Purple jewelry seems to be the best bet, whatever sells well. Had pretty much all these at one point or another:

    Spinner / Spriggan / Briarheart / Necro
