The percentage applies to your base damage so without knowing that, your question makes no sense ...

You're asking what is better: a flat bonus or a relative bonus?

In plain math and without going into how damage is calculated, the 8% weapon damage will become stronger the moment you're above 3200 WP.

It's 8% of YOUR weapon damage. So it depends on how much your weapon damage is. If you have 2000 weapon damage, 8% is 160. If you have 4000, 8% is 320. Isn't it obvious?

If you’re talking about something like Minor Berserk it’s not a true 8%, it is more like 5-6% since it is calculated additively with other % damage bonuses (like CP’s, Slayer, etc.).

If you mean something like Minor Vulnerability, the it should be close to the true 8% in most cases.

For most end game PVE builds 256 weapon damage will add about 4-5% to your DPS. So in a very general case the 8% damage is going to be better.

to add to this, if there is a percentage buff to your weapon damage specifically, like the medium armor passive or balanced warrior from templar, they are a percent of your base weapon damage and are all additive, like the increase damage percent amps that @WrathOfInnos is talking about here. so in the case of 8% weapon damage VS 256, you would need to have 3200 BASE weapon damage to have that 8% be more then the 256. very few builds will have that. 256 weapon damage will be better then 8% weapon damage most of the time.

@Lightspeedflashb14_ESO Good catch, I misread the “8% weapon damage” as “8% damage”. You are correct, 256 weapon damage is usually going to be better than 8% weapon damage.

Is this a Flawless Dawnbreaker comparison? I’m not sure how you would be getting 256 weapon damage by not slotting this ultimate. Care to elaborate?

    256/.08 = 3200

So if you have more than 3200 weapon damage before either of those buffs, the 8% will be better, otherwise flat 256 is better

Can anyone clarify / confirm what gives more damage? 256 weapon damage or 8% weapon damage?

    Thanks in advance.

Just a question: Which buff gives 8% weapon-damage? minor brutality is 5%, major 20%...the only 8% buff i can think of is minor berserk which amplifies your outgoing damage and not weapon damage specifically.

    Which buff gives 8% weapon-damage?

Passive flawless dawnbreaker; 5% from max ranked skill, 3% from FG passive.

I´ve mostly given up on theorycrafting TBH. Calculations are so opaque and ZOS can ninjachange them. It´s really minor stuff, mostly, anyway.

While this is true, it's nothing which can be swapped for flat 256 wep-dmg.

@Dragonnord in which context are you talking about that? which buffs do you mean correctly?

Having taught actual middle schoolers math, I am not surprised.

And they look at me like I have two heads when I say "Yeah, sometimes adults use math to calculate whatever is optimal in video games."

Of course, that might be because their next question is "You play video games? Do you play Fortnite?!"

Have you seen how people spell, or use grammar and punctuation?

Being capable of these things just isn't valued.

Not like being super 1337 in a video game is.

can you understand what they are saying? because that is what communication is all about. conveying ideas. as long as you understand what is being conveyed, does it really matter someone follows ultimately arbitrary rules for spelling, grammar or punctuation? all languages are ultimately made up words and rules and evolve with usage.
