Looking back on balancing.

Over the 5 years the game has been around. We are still making major balance changes to classes that have been in game since launch. Why though? In 5 years we can’t hit a balanced mark for the classes or are we just changing stuff just because we can change stuff to stay busy? I would honestly like to see the classes land where they should be and put all this extra resource of balancing into expanding the classes to fit more ways for players to play. Creating more abilities that are answers to other abilities is also a form of balance. And stops changes that would ruin other people’s builds. It’s also kinda silly that the game has been out for 5 years but the classes have had little change at all. There’s been no growth for them. That’s pretty sad in itself.

You’re forgetting the part where ZOS has to balance the classes for millions of players ... where each player has their own version of “balance”.

If you’re still here after 5 years (like me), then you should understand there is some compromise along the way.

Class innovation generally comes from the player and not ZOS ... after months (sometimes years) of playing and enjoying their character.

Bottom line: There are nine (9) races and 300+ gear sets in the game. If “classes have had little change at all” (and you can’t think of something new and enjoyable) ... then you probably aren’t doing any innovation yourself.

many groups on this forum all think differently and want different fighting styles.
    none of them agree.
so every day they make new threads all asking for nerfs to thier enemies builds and weapons and playstyles that they dont like.
    its a horror fest.
the people with the most in their forum complaint group wins the nerf against their enemies, and they get the nerf they want for their group.
    its horrible for everyone.
the only way to stop it is for the developers to step in.

“Balance” is never-ending because newer players get mopped and come on the forums begging for nerfs.

The devs need to please as many people as possible in order to get the company in business. They don’t play often or well enough to understand the implications of their proposed changes, much less the ACTUAL impact of those changes once implemented. The best they can do is “look at” something if enough people are crying about it. It is unenviable task.

The best we can hope for as players is that whatever is effective in game remains unnoticed by the vast majority of crap players in the game (and that when doubt get snitched out for “cheating” for merely using tools ZOS put in the games). Further, we can only hope our builds aren’t nerfed into the ground...or we could play something else. Is Dead Red 2 on pc yet lol.

As long as they keep trying to balance PVP and PVE as one entity there will never been meaningful balance in the game. It has never worked in any game ever made, and it will not work now.
