This. I actually love vMA, but I farmed enough inferno staves so that I'd have 3 for each magicka character and there's no way in hell I'm repeating that grind due to a terrible implementation.
A good implementation imo is to have a hardmode (unlocked after beating regular vet) where at the end quest turn in you are presented with the option to upgrade one of your existing maelstrom weapons to perfected version. Alternatively, this could be an additional quest reward for doing no-death.
Then again, the idea of perfect vMA weapons has terrifying implications for power creep since we're already pushing 60k solo dps as is...
