They have to prepare for the inevitable release of TES 6. Once it drops, a great many player will leave (some, temporarily) to play. Since ESO's revenue is based largely on the crown store, I suspect that revenues will plunge for a few months after TES 6's release. ZOS's new, non-TES game will make up for that.

But you are talking about something that is 5 years away (especially now that Bethesda had to put everything on hold and try to slavage that trainwreck called "Fallout 76"....and that itself is VERY cautionary story for future games.....and expectations), if ESO will be still up and running strong in 5 years....

Day one player here. I'm All for a new ESO. Their current servers are ran by hamsters running on wheels, and it’s not their fault... technology progresses, they used what was at their disposal in 2014, just let us carry over our characters and gear like Destiny did. (Also make an App so we don’t have to change characters 99999times when our bank, and all 15 character slots are full). Also don’t say you can’t transfer it over because you most certainly let me carry items over from pc to Xbox one. (I still have the emails)

I'm curious to see how ZOS will do with a non-TES game. I have a feeling that most of ESO's succes is due to the franchise and a lot of players wouldn't be here if the game wasn't set in the Elder Scrolls universe.

I think when they mentioned "Killing it" I bet they were talking about "Nerfing it". Until lag is gone, I wouldn't consider any dev "Killing it".

Where is it stated that it has anything to do with ESO? They're hiring, they have money, they can expand. I don't see why it should replace ESO, that's just an other game.

You can make that argument for pretty much any live MMO out there.

How can people actually sound surprised that a game developing studio is working on another game after having released ESO 5 years ago?
I mean OMG HOW DARE THEY WORK ON ANOTHER GAME AS A GAME DEVELOPER?!?!

And to the people saying this will be the end of ESO, did you actually think ESO would go on forever? For all you know their new game might be 10 times better

I am not playing ESO because of ZOS. I do not like ZOS as developers. If they can't fix the "In combat" bug in Cyrodiil, how am I to expect them to create an entire new game. It will have horrible performance, and they will introduce something similar to the Crown Store.

I'm kind of hoping it's still set in Tamriel, though in another era. If they release their new game after TES6, it would make sense to start slowing down ESO by then. Well, we'll wait and see!

Bethesda and Zenimax is not the same company, firstly.

Bethesda = Elder scrolls single player games
Zenimax = Elder Scroll online with borrowed rights from bethesda.

So Zenimax is making a new game? awesome, good for them =D A game company with only one game is unheard of anyhow. More games, more experience for the developers, better future for the company.

Will this do anything with ESO? For now, no... Down the line, maybe.. Easy logic truly. If ESO is popular they will continue. If it's dying they will milk it. And who wouldn't do that?

I just had an epiphany.

Why would ZOS start on a new game?

They found some old servers on sale when shopping for ESO, and they bought a few extra because of the good price. Why let the crippled hamsters just lie dormant in a room somewhere, when they can put them to use with a brand new game!
