Werewolf DPS Group Play Discussion: Aegis of Galenwe & Blood Moon

Rizz_the_Filthy_Dino
I've been theorycrafting a group play build with my guys for awhile now and finally got around to PvEing, obtaining Aegis of Galenwe. The idea behind this is that a healer runs Galenwe and blocks, granting empower to your 3 werewolves who're coordinating together.
Aegis of Galenwe
(5 items) After successfully blocking, you have a 50% chance to grant Empower to 3 allies within 15 meters, increasing the damage of their next Light Attack by 40%. 1 second cooldown.
Blood Moon
(5 items) When you deal Critical Damage with a melee Light Attack, you gain a stack of Blood Scent for 8 seconds. When you gain 5 stacks, you become Frenzied for 5 seconds, increasing your melee Light Attack damage by 30% and attack speed by 50%. This effect can occur every 18 seconds.

Damage Calcs for PvP
Werewolf Base Light Attack: 2,200 per swing
Galenwe/Blood Moon Boost by 70%: 1,540 additional damage.
Total: 3,740
Actual DPS: 7,480 (Doubled from 50% increase of speed; aka, damage per second)

Thoughts?

I don't think Blood Moon is a good set for pvp.
And put your healer to block in pve is not a great idea.

Only place I see this working is PvE contexts. For PvP bloodmoon isn't that much of a great set for werewolfs due to how horribly their light attacks connects to targets with some kind of mobility.

+ Werewolfs generally speaking have very low weapon crit, so getting bloodmoon to proc can be an issue to begin with.

There are a lot of ways to get Bloodmoon to crit easily. Outside of the straight up base 1,666 crit you get from Blood Moon, you could run:

    Gryphon's Ferocity
(2 items) Adds 833 Weapon Critical
(3 items) Adds 833 Weapon Critical
(4 items) Adds 129 Weapon Damage
(5 items) After dealing direct damage, gain Minor Force and Minor Expedition for 3 seconds, increasing your Critical Damage done by 10% and increasing your Movement Speed by 10%.

Warden's can give you Major Expedition with Frozen Device, which I use a LOT in PvP. It's exceedingly useful for either trapping an enemy out of position to you and your team, or before a team fight dropping down a few circles for your allies to take for 8 seconds of Major Expedition. You can also run 3x Swift jewelry if not running infused weapon damage, there are options. Generally crits aren't as prevalent in PvP because of all the crit damage mitigation, so another set could be better than Bloodmoon. The idea behind Bloodmoon is that your Light Attack damage output is boosted by 30%, and overall DPS is boosted by another 50% because the speed of your light attacks is doubled. Coupled with both Minor and Major Expedition, as well as Swift Jewelry making you 30% faster, you're moving fast enough to land your lights.

Gryphon's Ferocity is just one example.

Here´s the thing (speaking from my own experience, since I tried to make the exact combo you speak of work, but found it not worthwhile, and other options was more appealing and more efficient for me. Just want to make sure that you don´t think I´m bashing you or anything^^)

    * Werewolf LA: The hitbox for werewolf light attacks is incredibly unreliable unless you´re a DK (which gets increased range on the WW LA through their passives). If you increase your own mobility too much, or face an enemy which is very elusive, you´ll end up with little to few light attacks landing. More speed on your werewolf makes it harder to land attacks. Reason I ditched swift jewellery on werewolf.

    * Crit damage: Unless your enemy runs around with impregnable with transmutation buff (+ alot of points into resistant CP), your critical strikes will always do more damage than your non-critical strikes. I´ve lowkey no idea why people think high crit rating is a bad thing.....

    * Another issue with running bloodmoon + gryphon´s ferocity is that medium armor werewolf doesn´t work in PvP (unless you´re Fengrush and have 3 guardbots/pockethealers or zergsurf). You´ll do alot of damage but your magicka + stamina sustain will be subpar compared to heavy, and the reduced health you would otherwise get from heavy passives, are another huge loss.

    * I´ve seen two decent werewolf videos where bloodmoon is used. One is from Fengrush in a BG, where he managed to get bloodmoon to proc maybe 2-3 times during a 15 min BG. The 2nd video is from Lycantrope Rage (PS4 NA) where I´m still waiting for the set to proc......

If you really want to make the most out of bloodmoon for a PvP werewolf I highly recommend running it as jewellery + weapons, and pair it with sets like Advancing yokeda or mechanical acuity.

Ive only had success using Bloodmoon in pvp while comboing it with Heavy Mechanical Acuity. MA will set up your blood moon proc and if you land your bloodmoon it will melt almost anything out there. But you give up survival to do so and really only works with support to provide lingering healing.

Thank you guys for the replies. I did some testing and Galenwe doesn't have enough uptime, no idea if there is an internal cooldown other than the 1 second; however, it says this:
After successfully blocking, you have a 50% chance to grant Empower to 3 allies within 15 meters, increasing the damage of their next Light Attack by 40%. 1 second cooldown.

Only thing I could think of is the timing between me giving out Empower and my WW ally using a light attack was off. I kind of wish you could stack Empower, only using one stack per light attack. There is already a limited number of ways to obtain Empower anyways.
