If I use a "over time ultimate" and Switch Bars, which stats are used?

Hey,

If I activate e.g. destro ultimate or northern storm backbar and have 3000 weapon damage and then Switch to frontbar and there I have 4000 weapon damage, is it calculated with 3000 or 4000 wd?

I believe it works based on the normal way such a skill would work.

Example, caltrops and endless hail copy the stats of whatever current bar you are on per tick. With your example of destro ult, I would imagine it would behave the same as these.

This of course is speculation. Charge your ulti and hit a dummy, but take any trait or set gear off your back bar. That should do it.

Destro staff is magical based and uses Spell power not Weapon

Weapon damage is for Stamina based weapons

They behave like all abilities, a targeted DoT will use the stats from the bar it was cast on, while a Ground Based DoT will use the stats from your current bar.

In your example I'm assuming you mean Spell Power, not weapon power, it would scale off your theoretical 4000 spell damage form your front bar. Destro Ult is a Ground Based DoT, and thus scales off the current bar for each tick.

Ultimates scale based on whichever stat is higher. If your WD > SD, it will indeed scale off WD. Same with Stamina and Magicka.

i had the same question a while back, but was regarding penetration. had 8k pen on backbar, 10k pen on front. to test this, i used endless hail on dummy, switched to frontbar immediately, checked cmx, front bar pen was what counted according to cmx.

Check past patch notes as I believed this was patched a while back. I cant be bothered to check since idc that much myself ;) but I think I remember patch notes about it. What Ive read it used to snapshot on first tick before for some skills but that might not be so atm.

This was patched recently. I'm too lazy to go scouring old patch notes, but it used to be that such abilities would take the active bar's stats, and now they take the cast bar's stats. Same with weapon enchantments - I see it all the time on my tanks because I use Wall of Elements to proc Crushing or Weakening from my backbar (the other is on the frontbar), and it procs again from the backbar weapon after the 5 sec cooldown even if that bar isn't active.

For the people saying it's different for ultimates (I don't see why it would be), there's a simple way to test it: take an upgraded weapon with a proc set bonus on your backbar, craft some lv1 white weapon for the mainbar, and toss the ultimate on a test dummy with the stronger weapon before switching bars. If the damage stays the same and set procs keep coming, then you know it only uses the cast bar's stats.

I actually did Test IT with northern storm and IT Takes active bar in account, not the one U activated the ultimate on.
