Restoration staff skill book?

I'm trying to get restoration staff skill line for my pacifist character. UESP said there is only one skill book:

I went to Thalmor headquarter in Woodheart to read it, but it did not grant me skill line. Do I have to read it from bookshelves? If yes what is the location?

U have to, and i mean have to kill something do unlock it.

If you found five books, it would raise the level to 5. However, you would not see the line or unlock the abilities until you killed with it. Then it would unlock at 5.

Same happens with armor. Takes 3 pieces to unlock the line, but you can wear one and it will still give xp. However, you wont see it until you wear 3 pieces.

IE, i leveled a tank wearing 5 1 1.

I got to 50, and my heavy was at 50, and the other two weren't unlocked (only wore 1). I was like !@#$%!

Then i put three pieces on, and it popped, unlocked. And both medium and light were at level 27 instantly because the xp accrued anyway.

Make sense?

It’s ironic that you need to actually kill something so the Resto Staff skill line kicks in.

Although, let’s face it, there are a few things in Tamriel that are actually better off dead.

This does not make sense, why do I need to kill in order to learn how to heal?

Sucks bud im sorry. it can be a squirrel even lol. or if u just get a shot in someone else can kill it. As long as u get the xp for the kill and u took at least one shot.

I’d be interested to know how far in the story you can go without killing anything.

From what I recall, it will be a very slow process of advancements through, mainly, side quests and crafting. Most main quests require you to kill something to complete them. All group activity revolves around death. Which raises the issue of “Can you be a pacifist healer if all your heals are going to killers”?

You would at least be spared the tedium of the Psijiic Order as that requires at least 1 death to initiate.

I haven't start main quest as I'm afraid solo part will ruin my play through. I skip tutorial and as for psijic order, I heal other who is doing same quest and it count as participation.

I never deal any damage, never steal, loot, harvest any part of life form.

Try to be in a group of friends who kill a.. say a crocodile. Even if you dont take part actively you might get the resto sill line if you use any other skill like a group heal or buff...

I seem.to recall a guy back in the day getting to a very high level with no killing. Like vr10 or something. Whatever the cap waa at the time.
