I have 5 tanks , one of each class and if i had to put them in order of who i preferred playing it would be:

    Warden Tank
    Sorc Tank
    Templar Tank
    DK Tank
    NB Tank

This really only applies to tanks in normal and vet dungeons, as that is all i use them for.

They both have their strengths and weaknesses. DKs have good offensive group buffs. Wardens have good defensive group buffs.

DK has a strong defensive ulti and Wardens have a free spammable self purge.

Ideally in a trial environment you'd want one of each. DK tank skills are better designed than the warden ones too.

Better to go with a class that you like the gameplay of more, tanking is more about boss knowledge than the class itself.

Dk tank is vastly superior as it gives the group minor brutality, engulfing flames, chains which use magicka, amazing self heal with green dragon blood, amazing mitigation, amazing sustain through passives. Very beginner friendly and the most used class for end game tanking

Wardens make good off tanks though

They all have advantages and disadvantages, and it can depend on what content you're doing, and group composition.

If your DPS are stamina or fire heavy, the Minor Brutality from Mountain's Blessing and the debuff from Engulfing Flames are good, as @SoLooney noted, and Chains is a better pull than Frozen Gate. The AOE Minor Maim from Choking Talons is also good. And the extra 10% block mitigation from Iron Skin is clutch in some Vet Trials.

Frozen Device is harder to use than chains, but it places Major Maim on the target, which is nice. And you have a good chance to get Minor Maim from Chilled via Gripping Shards, Frozen Device, Permafrost, and Arctic Blast. Plus, there's a good chance that you'll be throwing out heals to the group, thereby providing Minor Heroism Toughness for +10% max health. (Thanks @Verbal_Earthworm for the correction)

For dungeons, IMO, Wardens make better healing tanks with 3 DPS. I ran Ebon, Werewolf Hide, and Bloodspawn, with Permafrost on front bar and Enchanted Forest on the back. Between Leeching Vines and Green Lotus, I could generally keep everyone at pretty high health, with the trees as an emergency burst.

Sorc tanks are probably the most underrated. Bound Armor gives the best block mitigation in the game, if you time it right. The synergy from the Atronach gives Major Berserk. Negate is a long-lasting AOE stun that isn't used enough in dungeons. Restraining Prison is the best root in the game, much better than Talons or Gripping Shards. Clanfear gives you your own off-tank, self-heal, and 8% max health.

Templars are not as easy to learn tanking with. DK is the best class to learn to tank on. It just has so much tanking utility built in. Wardens are probably the second easiest class for learning tanking.

When you are no longer learning the role but exploring the different flavors of tanking, Templars really shine. Besides the normal taunting, buffing and debuffing I also help heal and often add DPS to the fight.

It is true you have to go outside your class abilities for some of the utility baked into other classes, but there is utility from a Templar that you can't get anywhere else.

If you're learning to tank, I'd recommend you start with a DK. I believe they were designed for it even though the game was marketed as play as you want.

If you're an outside-the-box kinda player though, Templars can do it all with very few changes for different types of content.

How could you put a tankplar over a dk tank?

Like Verbal_Earthworm, I have tanks for all classes and I'd also put my tankplar, and even my NB tank, over my dk tank. I'm certainly not saying one is always better than the other, but it's a matter of what you know. My first character was a Templar, my second was a Nightblade. I've got four alts of each of those classes; I know them much better than the other classes. I like them, no matter the role each is built for. After those, I tried Sorcs and admittedly <3 'em. No matter their role, stam or mag, they feel like they have a really smooth rotation. I've only recently tried Wardens and DK's and still don't fully "get" either class, hence why I'd personally rate them lower.

So it often comes down to what you know and are comfortable with.

For the OP, between Warden Tank or DK Tank, if you're wanting to go meta, go DK. Between the two, I'd personally pick Warden Tank. My DK Tank is sturdy as all heck, but my Warden Tank swiftly became my favorite tank to play! Working some sort of theme into your build will certainly help breathe life into a character, which is probably why I like the character so much, but don't do so if you're the type to worry over BiS.

If I had to rate my tanks over what they excel at for my personal play style and preferences, this is what I'd go with:
    • Most Sturdy/Meta Tank: DK Tank (mine main one is a Hybrid Argonian build, but my HP Nord DK Tank is fun, too)
    • Most Offensive Tank: Stamsorc Tank (mine is an Orc and can really tear through some stuff while still tanking!)
    • Most Well-Rounded Tank: Templar Tank
    • Most Fun Tank: Warden Tank (mine is a Stam Khajiit build with an all-bear theme)
*As you specifically asked which is easier to use, I'd say any are easy to use if you ignore the meta and go S&B with a 2-handed backbar. Get Brawler on your 2-handed bar ASAP. The instant shields it gives will keep you alive while still dealing damage, letting you brute force your way through content that might otherwise wreck you.

    My Warden Tank:
    Spoiler
    Name: Bearly-Tanks
    Role: Barely Tanking
    vjAE8ww.jpg
Her monster set is Selene's for even more bears!

Gets whispered lots of bear jokes.

    One of my DK Tanks:
    Spoiler
    Race: Nord
    Role: The Dark dragonKnight
    WAiuBod.jpg
To truly be a superhero, she needs to be invincible. As a Nord with Green Pact and Beekeeper's, damage slides off of her like water off a duck.

Gets whispered lots of Na na na na na na's.

No doubt, DK tank is just too poweful in PVE.

ZOS also stated that DK is the best tank ever.

In trials, its doesnt matter, other class tanks can be carried.

I tried tanking first on a dk and my tank never made it past level 36. Do tanking didn't get with me very well and I vowed to never make another tank ever.
A couple of months ago I decided to try tanking again but this time with a stamden that was collecting dust. So I converted him to a tank and really like tanking on the warden so much so that I made a second.
