Absence of moderator activity

When I logged onto this page, apart from Matt F's pinned post there were only two posts with moderator comments, both ancient with 50+ pages. This is despite there being some serious threads that I feel ought to be commented on. Having played many, many MMOs down the years I find ZOS's absence of care for their customers staggering.

I guarantee 98% of the people here are adults; the forums are for us. Moderate yourselves. If you are looking for answers to the same tired complaints well I can guarantee you ZoS has addressed this question before. I doubt the will re answer every duplicate forum post on question. Seems like a lot lack of forum common etiquette hence all of this worthless posting. Read first; then post.

Not for nothing, but it's Monday morning for ZOS right now. Moderator activity drops over the weekend. So unless there's something egregious, threads are usually left to smolder.

There's also been a change lately, where the mods are more willing to deep six a thread that's gone seriously off the rails.. I don't know what caused them to adjust their policies. Still, expect moderation to pick back up in the next couple hours.

Mod's only come to remove posts that bash Zenimax, almost never to comment on anything serious

I mean, a moderator just went through a bunch of posts in another thread, and trimmed out the youtube links that had gotten stuck in the quote chain. Though, they did scramble the quote tags a bit in the process. So, I mean, they do other stuff.

Most often, they only intervene when players are bashing each other. Now, granted, anyone dumb enough to start threatening people (and, yeah, this does happen occationally), will get chucked in short order.

Which is highly likely since you're not supposed to talk about the forums on the forums... First rule of fight club I guess..

Obviously you shouldn't expect moderators to comment on the state of the game, as they are not devs and have 0 influence there. Devs rarely if ever comment on ongoing topics, which of course leads to the issue of the players feeling like they aren't being listened to. IMO they should assign people from each of the dev teams to work with Gina and actually communicate with the forums. If they just popped on for like 15 minutes a day to actually weigh in on a couple of topics related to their area (even if just to say "we see this") it would significantly improve communication (and could easily head off some heated topics before they turn nasty), rather than players feeling like they're just being dragged along for the ride each patch.

I mean, it's probably going to happen, because this thread has nothing to do with the game, and is discussing moderator (in)action. So... yeah, it's probably not long for this world.

In regards to absence of communications, i find it funny that:
    1. We never received official confirmation that yesterday's login issues have been resolved
    2. The Bethesda twitter last update says that there are ongoing issues: https://twitter.com/bethesdasupport?lang=en
So it's either no communication coming from ZOS, or an issue being open for more that 12 hours.
Not a great display in either case.

I would rather be part of a community that does not need a lot of moderation.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I think there is a misunderstanding going on in this thread. The moderation team is definitely active (some may even say too active) on the forums. Cursing is being snipped from posts, naming and shaming is cleared out, threads that break ToS or derail too much get closed swiftly.

What you are complaining about is lack of dev communication on the forums. And even though ZOS is definitely on the very low end, from my experience most games do it this way. Companies like Digital Extremes are definitely an exception and not a common thing. I would guess that some of it is time constraints - devs get paid for developing the game and not sitting on the forums. Spending an hour a day on the forums is not always possible especially since ZOS has a pretty pressuring content release schedule. Deadlines and such. Part is probably PR and community management concerns. It's not uncommon for devs to say something on the forums which will later come to bite them. Look at spellcrafting, it was announced years ago and it was even stated that they have no plans on finishing it but still before every major update we get a slew of posts demanding spellcrafting in the next patch.

I would like to see community managers releasing some kind of update once a week discussing some of the current issues (like Bungie does with their This Week at Bungie) but I do not think it is going to be beneficial for anyone if devs were to address every other thread on the forums.

I don't expect dev communication in the forums.
    They're devs.
    They're busy devving.

OTOH, I expect the Community Manager to act as a liaison between the devs and the forum/player community.

THATS what we should be seeing.
On a more regular and frequent basis.
And I mean specifically 'here' and specifically first, not on twitter or Reddit first.

Greetings! To clarify on some of the questions asked in this thread; the moderation team rarely posts comments unless we are moderating a thread or providing customer support. We are sometimes confused with the community team - which is made up of Community Managers. The Community team provides any posts that contain information related to ESO (like patch notes). The development team is also known to read the forums and engage with player questions.

If you have any questions related to the forums or need assistance, in general, you can always PM a moderator. We are happy to answer questions.

i have never seen that experience become successful, what always happens during "in-game" GM exposure is that moderation and bans and warnings hit an all time Hige and people very disgruntled with the presence of a GM and refer to those times as "game police officer" and most people shy away from their normal fun ingame.

I've seen one swing by and wax some bots, but that was a while back.

To be fair, you're not likely to see GMs unless the situation is pretty unique. The old bot bans come to mind. I'd assume (based on my experiences with Customer Service) that most of the things you'd think you'd need a GM for can either be done out of game, or remotely from a private instance.

Thank you for the reply! I know the teams are separate, and it’s clear what each group handles.
I guess that some of us are exasperated by the total absence of information about the status of the servers, present and future, and total lack of communication on that topic.
We’re trying to throw everything at the wall and see what sticks to elicit a response, but we know that the moderation team cannot answer us in these topics.
Thanks for replying and clarifying! This is the kind of communication that we would also like to see from the Community and Development teams!
