Set Suggestions: 5pc: Magic Blocking

While sorting through my characters, I thought of a five pc set idea that would really play with the mechanics of the game and revitalize the magic-based tank builds in a balanced way.

@ZOS_GinaBruno, how about a 5 piece set that taps into magic rather than stamina for blocking. Not sure how the numbers would add up, but it would make ice staff taunting a bit more viable and make use of magic based heavy armor sets. The kicker is that while the set is being worn, no stamina can be used for blocking and forces the player into a corner. It's magic or nothing. That would make it less overpowered. More than likely an end game tank would use a health based set like Ebon or Plague plus this new set rather than Alkosh and others. If Stamina skills like vigor and soothing spores use stamina to heal, why not a set that uses magic to block?

Am I misunderstanding the suggestion? Because a Destruction Staff passive already makes blocking with a Frost Staff consume Magicka instead of Stamina, so the set you're suggesting, as I understand it, seems almost redundant.

No need for a 5 piece set, just run 1 piece ice staff.

As mentioned earlier, already doable through ice staff.

But no endgame tank would want to block with magicka.Tanks are hybrids anyway and usually use stamina to block and magicka to support. Blocking with magicka taps into your support pool and additional stamina you get can't be utilised nearly as efficiently for support purposes. It's common for tanks to run ice staff and not take the passive which makes you block with magicka.

To clarify, this would make any weapon i.e. sword and board, dual wield and so on - capable of blocking with magic. Rather than dipping into two resources, it just uses one. This is for the purpose of tanking and could introduce new meta for endgame without relying on mostly stamina with a little bit of magic utilized.

It would be a better set than what we have seen ever since the proc period.

Ice staff passive does that. Never take that passive myself prefer to use stam for blocking and magicka for abilities

How about instead they turn ice staff back into a DPS staff. I'm still annoyed that they made a ice skill line class and also took away ice staff as viable dps.

Sure, I can still use one for dps, just not the taunt passive, but the other two have bonuses to increase damage, ice is about maiming and snaring.

Change it to be about increased crit or crit damage. Ice should do this.

Thing is you actually want to use both stamina and magicka as a tank.

Most of your abilities are magicka based so using stam to block is actually preferable in order to alleviate the pressure on one ressource pool.

No meta tank is "relying on mostly stamina with a little bit of magic utilised". A meta tank will always either have balance on their bar or stack magicka recovery as one of their main stats. All of that to sustain extensive magicka usage meta tanks have.

If nothing else, this could be an interesting albeit probably underused addition to PvP gearing. But as others have mentioned, this goes contrary to the meta and would not set a new meta due to how much more utility comes from Magicka abilities than Stamina ones. And since everyone who does group content in ESO is hopelessly obsessed with the meta, such a set would practically never be used for PvE.

I'd prefer a set bonus that let you use magicka instead of stamina to break free.

If they introduced a set like that I would give it some consideration.
