About that dungeon finder

As most of you know, the recently completed Undaunted Celebration Event in ESO was plagued with Activity Finder issues. We had similar problems last year, but we thought they were resolved - unfortunately this year the demand once again overwhelmed this particular system, especially during prime-time hours. This led to a really frustrating experience for many of you, so we are going to address the situation by making Mysterious Reward Boxes available during the New Life festival, which starts soon.

This is the way it will work: A Mysterious Reward Box will be given as a bonus reward for completing your first New Life daily quest each day, per account. This means that the first New Life Festival daily you complete on your account will grant one New Life Reward Box, one Event Ticket, and one Mysterious Reward Box. This should help grant you the rewards that you couldn't get through the Activity Finder.

Additionally, we will not hold another in-game event that requires the Activity Finder until we are 100% confident that the tool can support it. Stay tuned for details on that.

Well after almost half a year we have event that for most players is accessible only by dungeon finder. Finder is still broken, communication is still bad. @ZoS any comment on that?

I think you have to read between the lines here - what he said is that they will never fix the dungeon group finder, but also that they won't have any events that rely directly on it. So, he's been true to his word.

I mean, if you say so. But have you seen any evidence to the contrary? How long ago was this original comment made? Certainly long enough for them to have done something about it. They aren't fixing it dude, it's just the way it is. If they could come up with a crownstore token for finding a group, that would probably work flawlessly though.

35 minutes of pressing F to signify being ready for a dungeon...

35 minutes of "someone declined the invite"...

It took me about 3 minutes as a healer to start getting these invites. And then it was constant failure to form a group for over half an hour, with invites coming roughly 1 every 3 seconds, and sometimes in bursts of three. After hammering F for half an hour, I finally got into a delve...

    This system is utterly borked.

You'd think they test this stuff.

Like, any good company, would have the ability to simulate server load.
You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better than anyone else.

The event doesn't depend on it. Even for those without regular groups can still group up in zone chat and port in manually.

They held their word. It's not 100% fixed, so the event doesn't require it. Kinda like how on the pts they are currently testing a new version of dungeon event that only requires killing the final boss. No dungeon finder.

Well yes, it doesn't strictly depend on it but come on, they know most people will use it. And as another note it hinders more than the event since the BG queue is also broken during these times. Took a ridiculous amount of time smashing the F key to get my daily done

That doesn't matter. They said they wouldn't hold any events that require the LFG tool, and this event DOESN'T require it. You can easily go to the Undaunted Enclave of your Alliance and type "x role lfg for y pledge". A lot of people do this to begin with, they don't mess with the LFG tool but instead try to group from /zone.

Also, the issue doesn't seem to be quite as bad now as it was during the Undaunted event last year. Both the Pledges I ran today, the LFG tool filled the last spot in a 3-man group within 1-2 minutes. Obviously there still are issues since other people are having problems, but with any luck it won't get to the point it was last year where pretty much NO ONE was getting into groups at all.

Clearly it still can’t handle significant load. Equally clearly ZOS can’t easily fix it. Hence this event is providing rewards from quest givers and the Activity Finder isn’t required for this event as you can just form your own groups and port to a dungeon.

You might argue that Rich was being a bit disingenuous with his statement, but it remains true.

Much more of an issue for BGs, where you can’t play unless you use it.

Like I said for a large amount of players dungeons finder is a necessary tool. Event not require it and that is good but it's not a fix, only workaround of the problem. I have guilds and many friends, for me it isn't the issue but that situation is a luxury that not everyone have. Half a year since Rich post and we still have broken tool and almost no communication about it. You think this situation is okay and we should just accept it?

Actually, it does. Not all of us have guilds of people to group up with on a whim when we're free. A lot of us have school, jobs, limited time, etc. Sure, me and my friend have been duoing the normal pledges, but if we wanted to find a full group for the vet ones or anything when we have the time (which is oceanic timeframe) it would literally take us hours on end to find a group unless we happened to have some friends staying up late for NA timeframe.

Remember, not everyone is in US time zones. I wish I could pound this into every NA players' head.

    Groupfinder:
The worst part is when it finally puts you in a group, your healer turns into a werewolf, your tank has 14k HP and the dps is heavy armor, using a restro staff and a two handed sword on the backbar. Then comes the 15 minute penalty before the cycle starts anew.

    Rulz of Morrowind:
    • The first rule of Morrowind is: You do not talk about Morrowind.
    • The second rule of Morrowind is: You do not talk about Morrowind.
    • Third rule of Morrowind: Someone yells NDA stuff, uploads images, streams, the game is over.
    • Fourth rule: only invited players can test.
    • Fifth rule: one invite at a time, fellas.
    • Sixth rule: crying or bashing on pts.
    • Seventh rule: NDA will go on as long as they have to.
    • And the eighth and final rule: If this is your first invite at Morrowind, you have to play.
