The pets of sorcerer are in the same way targetable as you as a player. Hiding behind pets mean, that you interupt the line of sight of your enemy by staying behind your pets, making him target the pets instead of you.
This way people with targetable pets (sorcs, wardens and necros) are more robuste than other classes, since the pets absorb a good amount of damage, which was actually aimed at you.
yup a lot of "elite" sorcs will run twilight and atro and hop around in them to make it really hard to target them on top of already still absurd levels of protection.
even more fun when its duo or more, 6 targets in close proximity, 4 of them with huge hit boxes, and only 2 of them you want to target jumping around in between them.
much fun.

They have not learned how to target in this game and would rather blame your build than attempt to get better. I would recommend beating them repeatedly and laughing at the hate whispers.
File under "you suck cause you wont stand still and let me kill you easily.
Seriously though pet specs have always been told this in these games in the same way that ranged specs like Snipers get grief for not walking up into melee range so they can be destroyed.
There are many different ways to play these games but for some reason the melee crowd things everyone else is supposed to play their way or be given grief for it as opposed to them having to work to figure out how to counter you.
In short, ignore them, play how you want, its your money.

Some pet sorcs abuse this to an extreme in BGs, having 8-16 pets active at one time. It’s pure no-skill cancer. These same sorcs insist that sorcs NEED to pet stack to do well in BGs, but that is absolutely false. They pet stack because they know it is a hard carry, and because they know it irritates people. Griefing, plain and simple.

Agreed. I play Sorc without a single pet and do just fine. Pets are for folks who can't pvp and have no friends, so they have to summon a friend to help them out.

The problem comes when they unintentionally screw you when you try to "play how you want". You don't even need to be targeting the owner for their pets to steal your skills/ultimates, you can quite literally have a pet walk just to the side of your character, off to the side of your screen, and your ultimate will hit the pet instead of you. Targeting really is just that wonky.
Tab targeting doesn't help either, because tab targeting seems to have its own will. One second none of your attacks are hitting the guy you have targeted, the next...

IMO there should be an option to disable pet targeting. It introduces so many unintended targeting problems, and the counter that is meant to be used -- tab targeting -- is so buggy that it's practically autopilot.
