Guilds, Why are they so limited?

Is there a specific reason why guilds are account bound, limited to just 5 for all characters @ZOS_GinaBruno , or anyone who knows?

We are given 8 character slots, 5 guild slots, and roleplay is well known as a good portion of the community.

So I may have one Argonian who is in one guild for RP, one for PVE and one for PVP.

And I may have my Nord who is in a guild for RP, a Trade Guild.

But now my Dunmer cannot join an RP guild and I have to deal with just slotting him into an RP guild shared by my alts.

Is there a limitation in the system that prevents us from having Guilds on characters rather than just sharing them account wide?

    Account wide is much better.

Be glad you can join 5. Most games only allow a single guild.

Though some of this would not be necessary without the inane guild vendor program here, using a true auction house instead.

5 guilds is limited? Yikes. I play like way more than most people and don't have time to say I'm active in all the guilds I currently have. How much time do you have available to devote to all these guilds you want?

What would you ever need a 6th guild for that your first 5 aren't doing right now for you?

Because guilds are a player group, not a character group. This allows players to be in communication with their guilds at all times instead of just when they are on a specific character. It also means you don't have to ask someone to invite your alt(s).

It is a trade-off. Character-specific guilds allow for the characters to be better aligned with the guild. It is possible to have a real Dunmer only guild, for example. But, it also blocks guild social relationships at the player level.

I get why they did it, and after all these years, I guess it is OK. I was not a fan of it at the start, though.

    No? Why do you?

Join a trial guild and you'll have no problems. Few guilds I know of organise normal trials aside from nHoF since they're all so easy, go to Craglorn for that.

Not sure if 5 is the right number. By the time you have a trade guild, a trial guild, maybe your own guild and a couple of 'social' guilds, you are full.

Serious traders would be in 2, 3 or 4 trading guilds and serious end game triallers would like to have 2 or 3 trials guilds. If you want to trade and do trials, you might have to prioritize one over the other - so maybe a couple more wouldn't go astray.

It is the one thing that hasn't changed since I've been playing.

And whatever you do, don't mention the war (Auction House).

And even if you are a serious trader, or RPer you will be unable to do both due to the limitation. And as I said it is because I roleplay so I would have a guild for that particular character in question and my social guilds.

    So to explain:

Roleplay guilds aren't active every single day, every single night and even if they are that still leaves space for raiding, trading. So if I have 3 characters, each particularly designed, they would better fit in different roleplay guilds. But to gain all that gold I need for a house, or gear, etc I need trading guilds, two, three and still not all guilds are totally active so you need to supplement. And in that PVE/PVP guilds for doing content. Not all guilds do every thing so you have to hop around where some only do trials and others do Vet Dungeons only so now these are hyper focused guilds, which is easier to manage, but limited in content.

I understand the trade off it just seems with comms like Forums, Discord and TeamSpeak there are other ways to maintain contact at all times. And not all games just give you one group, perhaps back in the day, but I know of a few that have guilds per-character so it lets them do their own thing because sometimes people just want to be on character-x and take a break from guild-b. Or, as previously said, just do content which with specialized guilds (which are easier to run) it is difficult to find a guild that "does it all" consistently or doesn't break up due to the difficulty of maintaining the activity.

It is a good conversation to have.

Is there another way guilds can be character bound instead of account? Because one could simply join the same guild on another character, if they really wanted to maintain contact so I don't feel that is a huge reason. Allowing each char to maintain 5 guilds separate from the account seems viable so it is a question as to why wasn't it implemented and why account-bound comms?
