Who knows what they are doing when they take the servers down? When they take them down for an hour or so for a simple hundred meg client patch it makes some sense. When they take them down for 8+ hours to install a new chapter it makes some sense. But when they take them down for 8+ hours to install a 166MB client patch in the middle of the biggest event of the year how are we supposed to make sense of that?

It wasn't 8 hours, though that's what your message said - 12:00 PM. So I come home at 11:30 so I can play the game and the message says 12:00. When I thought it was 12:00 I tried & still got a message it would be available at 12:00 EST - oops my watch was off by 1 minute. Okay I'll wait. Now its definitely after 12:00 & I relaunch Again, and now it says, greatly paraphrasing: "you can't play now - try again in three hours" REALLY? You didn't know at 11:59 you were changing it so we couldn't play until 3:00 ? At exactly 12:00, when you had said it would be available, you suddenly realized, "oops, we need another three hours" ????

Sorry , I don't believe that for a second. When I was working a job where the customer was relying on our servers, and they were waiting while we updated, If anything changed we let them know immediately. I understand the updates, the maintenance and all that. But give me a break. Don't wait the very last second to say try again in three hours. It isn't that hard - not like you need a personalized message for every single customer.

PLZ DON"T WASTE MY TIME. I pay over $50 a month to play the game (I have 3 active ESO+ accounts). I think I'm doing my part & I love the game. BUT PLZ DON'T WASTE MY TIME.

So your ignorance is showing quite a bit here. Because you think the only maintenance that can be done is through patches and updates to the game itself. When there is an entire infrastructure to care for "behind the scenes" that you and I never see. Sometimes, inconveniently for us players that infrastructure needs larger than normal maintenance and repair so that it can continue to support the constant and continuous running of the game.

This is like complaining about your city tearing up an old and pothole filled road to lay a new one. It completely benefits you in the long run, but because it prevents you from using that road for a few days you cant help yourself but act like its the end of the world.

Well , people can't know what you did during the maintenance if you don't write it in the patch notes , anyway thank you, sorry for the negative attitude.

Backend work is repspeak for "We haven't been able to fix the group finder bugs for years, but with the group event week approaching we're going to try a few things and monitor the number of complaint threads to see if we are heading in the right direction."

Um... I don't see people running around screaming "the end is nigh!!!".
If the server has to be taken down it is inconvenient, though certainly understandable. It can be both, believe it or not. If it is taken down for a "relatively" inordinate period of time, It actually can change our plans & is a bit more inconvenient. But when we are told, in real life "I'll be there in 8 hours to pick you up", and then in 8 hours "I'll be there in three hours to pick you up", and finally, "I have no idea when I'll pick you up!"

Well, it's not the end of the world but it is irritating, frustrating and inconvenient. In this world, complaining about things that are irritating, frustrating and inconvenient can sometimes make them better. Just accepting them does not ever help mitigate the issues.

And some people are telling us to lower our expectations, lol, if we were to lower them even further we would have no game.

Is it too much to ask for a game were we don;t have bugs from 5 years ago still unfixed? Is it too much to ask for better performance? With the amount of money then make from this game it should be a non problem at this point, but people are telling us to lower out expectations, on a service we pay for, just.. i can't. Some people are gonna farm brownie points whenever they can.

Sometimes no response can be less inflammatory lol. I have an incredibly simple idea. Under Bug Reports add one of yall's fancy little posts at the top of it called Known Issues. Under that would be... known issues. Have a status next to the issues the community gripes about most. You know... like the game breaking ones. Like being stuck in combat forever, shade not working etc... You'd get a lot less grief from people when you introduce a patch that fixes so little of what we've been asking for.

While that sounds great in theory, in practice, players will still complain. The status of this known issue hasn't been updated since yesterday. Why did that known issue get fixed before this known issue, which has been a problem for longer. Etc., etc.

Players will find a way to complain about any communication ZOS makes. It's a double-edged sword. Don't communicate enough, and players complain. Provide too much information and players pick it apart and complain.

You really need to manage your expectations more.

This, very much so. However, it is less about managing expectations and more about being realistic that there is equipment and other maintenance that needs to be done. The server system for the game is a little more complicated that that tiny PC on your desk.
