I Lost The Main Questline From my Journal

I finished the dragon starter quests with Abner Tharn (Khajiit temples, etc) before I did the "castle of the worm" quest where I rescue Tharn from the castle. I then did the "castle of the worm" quest and rescued Tharn. After finishing all the dialogs in the Harborage the main quest line disappeared from my journal. I never got the next quest where the banekin tells me to see Tharn at the mages guild. Going back to the Harborage results in no continuing dialog (only option is "goodbye"). Any suggestions on how to get the main questline activated would be appreciated.
