Relatively few necromancers have succeeded in turning themselves into liches, but many of them believe that achieving a state of lichdom is the ultimate goal of necromancy. Scholarly works and folk tales alike speculate on how one might become a lich. There is only one path which is somewhat well-known, and even then, most details remain well-hidden.

but it's not supposed to be a temporary thing like a 30 seconds transformation. Once you made it to become a Lich, you can't transform back, which is why a Lich transformation Ultimate ability makes no sense.

It is a necro class. Not a lich class. Also, as Visikul pointed out, ults have short durations. Being a lich is rather permanent.

Same can be said for Colossus. They didn't want necro to have permanent pets because necromancy is difficult magic, they could've gave a ult were they "almost" become full Lich but it not mastered yet so won't last long.

No the same cannot be said for colossus. Changing form into the Colossus can be considered a type of power illusion or alteration magic. To change into a lich is completely different than changing into a Colossus.

Did you even read the whole thing? To become a lich, you've got to put your soul in a physical item, and once its out of the body, thats it. That's definitely not something you can do for an ult.

Not every necromancer is a lich, but every lich is a necromancer. I don't see why not.

The necromancer class seems pretty underwhelming from a class fantasy point of view.

You do understand that becoming a lich is basically achieving an afterlive through dying via complex rituals, right? How can it possibly be achieved at will, multiple times and just for 30 seconds? =\
A not-curable but powerful lich skill-line (i mean after you become a lich you can't return back) would be interesting though.

Glad you can provide a link to it. I suggest you read it and understand it a little better. Then you will know it is not a temporary change that one can just be a lich for 30 second, then return to their normal state..
Once the transference is complete and the necromancer's soul has left his body, the ascension to lichdom is completed, and the physical object holding the soul becomes inconsequential

The above is to help. There is no indication the process can be reversed.

Well lore wise a lich would be darn OP

    - correct me if I'm wrong, but they're essentially damn near immortal

Anyway.... I'm cool with it, in CP PvE you might as well consider yourself a lich as everything is a field of souls for your harvest

Lichdom? Sure, im done to preforming an overly convoluted ritual that has already a extremely long process of torturing 4 mortal man/mer souls and once in the worst possible ways and hope that i dont get interrupted at any moment or explode into a fire magical ball of death.

    500 ult.
    Cast time 25mins
    Self / 12 meters
Sacrifices either three of your group members or three other man/mer enemies with in 3meters of your current humanoid foes to become a lich.

If interrupted at any moment during the cast time will result in permanent death of all characters involved destroying them and everything they have on them and in their bags.

If ritual is successful, archer/mage, mender and blast bones will last until killed or unsummoned.

Gotta keep it lore friendly and balanced right?

    Im ready for this.

They've told us that the bone goliath "transformation" isn't really a transformation. It's an illusion.

So a lich transformation illusion would make literally as much sense as the goliath one.
