Rare spawns in open world

Was just running around and got to reminiscing on my WoW days. One of the cool things that they had were “rare spawns” scattered across the map. Certain ones were designated to specific areas to maintain the lore so to speak and there were tiers to how “rare” these spawns were. These spawns would drop usually decent loot or a unique item. I think it would be really cool if ESO incorporated something like this to give some cosmetic or unique item or something.

Thoughts?

Thats a good idea. There are already special spawns, werewolf and vamp infecters. So this is possible.

They should be rare enough to prevent rare hunters and should not come with special drops or "get em all" achievement so people wont have to grind for them. That would be tedious grind.

oh dang, thanks for reminding me. I almost forgot this game I've been playing for almost 4 years wasn't world of warcraft! whew, you really saved me there, friend.

alright, now that we've all been reminded what game we're playing (a very important tangent as we all know) we can get to the discussion at hand.

I think this could be alright, OP. There's not a whole lot of interesting stuff in the open world zones, so more opportunities for cool loot is good in my books.

edit: I just kind of remembered, the dragons in Elsweyr are meant to operate as something like this if I'm not mistaken, once that expansion comes out. I wouldn't say no to something similar on a smaller scale though.

What would this add that bosses of various kinds don't already provide?

I like this idea. From what I understand, dragons are going to work this way in Elsweyr. But I would also love to see the mechanic in other areas. Anything to make areas more re-playable would be awesome.

Not crazy about this idea in all the zones. I understand the dragons will do something like this in Elsweyr.

The thought of camping a zone trying to find that one spawn does not sound appealing

There are already rare spawns in many of the zones; they are just not valuable or rewarding.
    Examples:
    • Mai'q / Lightbringer / Crime Pays / Beggar in the base zones - gets you an achievement (each) if you find them in all zones. You may also get a bit of xp or gold or a stamina buff, depending on which you encounter.
    • Peacebringer in Grahtwood
    • random events in Vvardenfell, Summerset, CWC, Murkmire, and Wrothgar, some of which are tied to achievements.
    • random Dark Fissure events in the base zones. The only time these were worth doing was during the Witches Festival event, when the final boss counted for kills of a certain category for the event.
    • Werewolf and bloodfiend spawns at specific times (full/dark moon at midnight), in the 5th zones

I agree that it should be possible to spice these types of events up a bit to make them more interesting and/or rewarding. The challenge is that any changes (or new events) should not, thematically, detract from dolmens as being the priority "random" spawn that players should be going forth to attack. If we are heroes out to save the world from a daedric prince, it would be kinda ... bad..? if all the best adventurers were constantly chasing after a loot item instead.

That's been in this game since ever, besides the dolmens and WB you will get the occasional daedric mobs that spawn in random places in the map
