This post was made as a suggestion regarding the state of the game. Something that has been discussed within the ESO community for quite awhile. The main focus and aim is to bring up some of the issues that has been there really a long time, and open up discussion about the possibility of an overall improvement patch.
Before starting, I'd like to say that ESO has improved over the year quite dramatically. And while there is no real 'balance' in an MMO regarding classes, for example - especially in a game where there's so many possibilites of creating characters and builds - the developers has done a great job of balancing the classes to the extend that is possible within such a vast sea of possibilities. Also the regular updates and added content is also very much appreciated
Now, at the doorstep of Elsweyr expansion and the coming year for ESO. As the developers have given already a schedule for the plans regarding 2019, which will be exciting to see. However, there is so much content in the game as it is - I think it would be appropriate to address the problems from old content also. This is a tall task to be done, and it surely requires a lot of hours and resources to bug fix. Also, it is understood that the developer team has goals to meet regarding planning, progress and, I'm sure, are somewhat bound to make content or adding items into Crown store, because the game does need to make sales for it to keep existing. But in the long run, it would give a better look towards the consumers, and especially within the ESO community, to address many of the core problems the game still suffers from. Which is why I'm suggesting a full "quality of life" patch, after the Year of the Dragon is over. Similar in the way as during the release of One Tamriel, one content patch was dropped to unify the world, remove faction locking, removal of VR rank system and reworking the content to make all the areas in the game relevant again.
This idea has being thrown around over the years within the community, and would be greatly appreciated. Fixing all (or at least most) of the old content is long overdue. There are sections and boss fights in multiple dungeons that can easily bug, either prolonging the progression or even prevent completion - not to mention general bug fixes that are just annoying. A few examples:
- Blackheart Haven: several harpies getting stuck on the palm trees before First Mate (minor annoyance)
- Vaults of Madness: Death's Head, the colossus boss, getting stuck in a pillar (blocks progress; reset only solution)
- Elden Hollow II: part of the quest to summon Dark Root, spriggan boss, is buggy (delays progress; script not working properly when someone has the quest)
- Wayrest Sewers I: Varaine Pellignare getting stuck on the platform, not jumping down (delays progress; only single target ranged abilities can hit him)
- Imperial City Prison: sometimes portals won't spawn in Lord Warden fight (delays progress; results in unnecessary deaths, or group wipes)
And many more bugs, some related to dungeon achievements, random fight resets, etc...
There are also some combat related issues regarding certain weapons, weapon abilities and class abilities, animation cancelling, weapon swaps, combat bugs... Sometimes it's hard to pin point what causes the given problem, but lag or high ping really exaggerates many of these issues. Getting stuck in heavy attack with a destruction staff,
Puncturing Sweep/Biting Jabs on a templar is clunky and can easily bug out when animation cancelling an ability before it, light attack weaving
Funnel Health/Swallow Soul on a nightblade sometimes causes double casts or before mentioned destro heavy attack bug, ... More are to be found, of course. These are just what came to my mind while writing this, and have personally bothered me the most.
Then, there is the matter of stability. This affects PVP the most, but it's still a factor in all areas and content of the game. On the official Elsweyr stream, the developers did mention that they are working on Cyrodiil and the server stability. I'm not gonna touch too much onto this, because those are in the works and only time will tell. I will say, however, that primetime PVP - especially on champion point enabled campaigns - is unplayable. The amount of lag in EU servers (I'm using that as a reference, because I play on PC EU) is so ridiculous on some weekends that it has an effect on the whole game experience - no matter where you are in the game, or what you do. It's surely not an easy solution to fix that, but it should be addressed as soon as possible. This has being mentioned as the single most negative pain points of the game for years now.
In conclusion,
this thread was made for the developers to read and for the community to give their ideas about some of the stuff that's been there for a long time tha would need addressing. Post your experiences down below, so that a more comprehensive list would be easier to compile. Be respectful, no trolls. It doesn't get you anywhere.
