When is the race change token consumed?

Is it consumed when you click it on character selection screen?
Or is it consumed when you press "Play" or some other button that finishes your character edit?

I'm thinking about using one of these tokens, without consuming it, to just see how I could change my characters features like height, hair, chin size etc. I would just leave character edit screen. Can I do that?

You can. It's only consumed after confirming the changes.

Edit: this is what you see when clicking "back":

As you can see, the token is not consumed.

Yes.

Even if you try to save the change if the name is taken or not allowed it won't go through and won't consume the token.
