Necromancer DOTS

arcsureb17_ESO
Hey, im a possible returner, i played the game at release for a few months.

Since necromancer have been announced i was thinking about coming back as necro is my all time favorite class since everquest. Ive read the skills of the class and i know its still work in progress i just wanted to give a single insight.

Necro has been traditionally a DOT/pet/rot/curse class in almost every game. I can see that in TESO it is heading a semi-similar way, which is lovely. People expect this.

My only concern is, that i didnt see a single traditional dot to apply-to-target then apply-to-another-target then apply-to-another-target so the dots can keep ticking on all of your targets. Theres not a single spell like this in the whole necro toolkit. It has AOE ground dots, it has recast-pet dots, but it doesnt have a single debuff-target and forget type of dot. Something like entropy or cripple.
Maybe one of the morphs for burning skull could turn it into a real classic dot or some of the skeletal mage morphs could make it so you can cast multiple skeletal mages but on different targets. Or honestly any idea works, but its a shame that the "supposed to be most dot heavy class" does not have a single old-school dot. It even has a passive that buffs dots but no traditional dots.

The beauty of dot classes is that you constatly have to switch targets to apply pressure to as much target as possible and this gameplay is very fun to many people. Its simply boring to always have 1 or two targets and focus damage those. With a nicely implemented dot class you always keep switching targets giving much higher skillcap to the class. But without any traditional target-debuff based dots this gameplay is not achieveable.

Im not asking for 3 different long duration dots that makes it superexciting to track and keep up all of them on 4 targets (altho it would be a nice design), im only asking for one.

One single classic dot for the upcoming dot class.

Would be nice.

Yeah i also thought the necro seems to be kinda lacking dots, especially since his passive gives him +dot damage....

The skill you are describing already exists as a warden skill. I actually think that skill is more of a “warlock” skill and not a necro skill...

In the elder scrolls games at least lore-wise, necros usually deal with dead bodies, have skeletons (conjuration magic), and make use of fire/lightning/cold spells (destruction magic). I think the proposed skills are pretty accurate to what a necro in elder scrolls should be.

Warlock is a reskin of the necromancer toolset.

Warlock and necro both have pets.
Warlock and necro both have dots.
Warlock and necro both have debuffs, curses, weakening the opponent.
Warlock and necro both use their life somehow for more power.

So warlock and necro are essentially the same gameplay wise. Its just warlock is more a demonic flavor, and necro is undead flavor.

I get it tho that Elder scrolls imagines necromancers differently, im just saying what the mass would expect, because 90% of the games if they implement necromancer it has some kind of undead companions, and some kind of debuffs/dots.

Because of this maybe one dot would be nice, just to please the expectations. The rest of 29 skill morphs can be elder scrolls like.

But why give the necro a dot passive when the class has only 2 magicka dots and 1 stamina - 2 of which are very specific....doesnt seem thematically sound....
