Skyshards behind gates in Cyrodiil

I am missing 2 damn sky shards for the global achievement - is there any better way to see if you can access the necessary gates (what a dumb system) than just checking back from time to time and "hope"?

Can i see somehow on the map if a gate is open or not?

Sure.

Choose a home campaign. You can then zoom in on the Cyrodiil map. If you see the that the gate keeps leading to the desired skyshards have been captured, join the campaign and get them.

Two items to consider:

1) When viewed from outside the server, the Cyrodiil map is not exactly up to date

2) Gate keeps are a priority to recapture. Your opportunity window is narrow.

The system is not 'dumb'. Nobody needs those 4 skyshards unless you want the achievement and the furnishing. If you really, really, really want them, then work for them. It's not too hard. It merely takes patience.

I checked in with guildies, too, if I wasn't on the toon that needed the skyshards for the achievement. I agree that it's dumb and annoying, and it's a relief to have it done and over with. Good luck.

can i only do that when i set a home campaign (and can i abandon it easily)?

Cause one of the annoying things is that i actually need to travel to each campaign to see if a gate is open...so it always takes time to switch between the campaigns to check them out...is there an easier way to check?

1) Yes to both questions. When you zoom in on the Cyrodiil map, you are viewing the Home campaign. Bear in mind that this view may be a bit old compared to the state of the map when you travel to campaign

2) There is an option to turn on an announcement when a scroll gate is opened. I forget where the option is located on PS4, let alone any other platform. When the announcement is set to always on, you'll see messages such as 'The Gate of Chim is open!' even if you're not in Cyrodiil. At least that was how it worked a while back. Once you see that message, join your Home Campaign asap... that gate won't stay open long.
