Elsweyr's New Tutorial... (potential spoilers)

I really don't have a lot to say about the new tutorial that is coming with Elsweyr, partly because of spoilers, and partly because it is a tutorial and we have all seen them. This is more to just make a few comments about some changes I saw and what I thought of them.

If you want to know nothing about the tutorial location and setting, please do not read further.

I'll answer the burning question first. I forgot to note whether I got a skill point at the end of the tutorial. You'll have to forgive me. I was focused on other things as I left the tutorial, both times that I ran through it. Based on Morrowind and Summerset, I will guess "yes, there is a skill point" with a fair amount of confidence.

Also, no, we do not get to choose the tutorial we want to go through.

The Elsweyr tutorial is one of the best ones, if not the best of them all. It is closest to Wailing Prison, so it is a longer tutorial, but it differs in many ways. Expect to spend several minutes navigating through the tutorial.

Did I mention that there is a dragon during the tutorial? There is a dragon during the tutorial. Hardly a surprise, right?

I thought that this tutorial is very well thought out. The player is learning the skills required to play the game, and the setting is actually a school that teaches combat. How appropriate! Skills in the older tutorials were basically a tool tip telling you what to do, and as soon as you did it, you moved on. The teachers at this school are more thorough. Combat skills are performed more than once, along with encouraging dialog from the teacher. This might seem tedious to a skilled player, but I find this a terrific change that will greatly help new players. It might even help some older players.

Aside from that, the player is guided through the standard actions, there is a selection of weapons to play with, and it does a good job covering the basics, all while killing things that should be killed and talking to people that should not be.

A change in this tutorial is that, while the goal is still to leave, the character is not in a prison trying to escape. The ultimate goal is to get out of the tutorial, obviously, but this tutorial feels like something more meaningful. I think that this is because the character's purpose is not to escape from prison. There are several interesting things about this starting location that are outside of the the purpose for being there, so take the time to look around.

This is a great starting location for the game. Bad things are afoot, as one would expect, but I won't say why the character ended up there, or why it is so important to leave. I leave these for later discovery, or for others to spoil.

I do want to call out one thing. They fixed the one annoying thing that I disliked about the Summerset tutorial above all other things. In Summerset, the player levels up after a training combat, but if they player stops to do the level up work, they find that the tutorial guide has left them far behind. The sequence of events in the Elsweyr tutorial are much more in tune with the first level up, and the tutorial guide waits for you, if you decide to take care of it right away. Nice!

Was the Character Creation screen well-lit so we can accurately see the hair color of our new necromancer?

I do not remember. I was more interested in getting into the tutorial than I was creating a character. Outside of sex, class, and race, I pretty much took whatever character appeared on the screen. Maybe a couple tweaks, or a roll of the dice a couple times, but that was it.

@MissBizz spent time creating a clone of her character on Live, though. Maybe she can answer.

Honestly I never notice that on any of them. Felt brighter than the Morrowind one tho

    That's hopeful! Thanks!
