WW and tanking?

I keep getting tanks in dungeon pugs who keep using WW form all the time. is this just them being fake tanks (especially when they have 15k HP) or is it a new meta?
Playing your character the way your character should play is all that matters. Play as well as you can but never betray the character. Doing so would make playing an mmoRPG pointless.

This happened to me and a guildie that had to pug a tank for a Frostvault run. The first thing the “tank” did was transform into a werewolf and predictably couldn’t hold aggro. Naturally he blamed everyone else for the wipe. I thought this was a fluke. Hope it isn’t a new trend for “tanks”.

that time we were on normal and we beat it quickly even though there were a few deaths. I seem to be a decent healer even if I'm not a good dps. If we were on vet I would be forced to vote kick or we'd never beat it though. the Dungeon was WGT by the way.

Ww have high defense but no taunt, in fact the transformation itself scatters mobs. They aren’t real tanks. If it’s just normal dungeon then it might be okay if the other 3 people are self reliant.

You might see stuff like this more often because Zos keeps nerfing tanks and pushing players who actually like tanking away from the role.

Yeah I wont touch ESO tanking. I want to do enough damage to solo easily and be able to contribute significant dps in pve. I do this in FFXIV with ease which is why I main a tank class there and love it. in ESO? no thanks if I hit like a wet noodle I just wont.

Pick a class you enjoy and practice. A good solo build is one that has enough resources for defense and offense. Im sure you'll do fine.

Yeah but I want to do more than just solo. it wouldn't be such a big deal if I didnt have to swap gear sets every time though. The add ons for that kinda suck. and theres no built in feature for it.

I have a WW tank and I keep WW ulti on ice staff bar for increased stam regen which is stacked to 2.5-3.5k depending on armor and food used. I will switch gear to off-dps setup and turn to werewolf in case of group dps is too low (this happens if I help some newbie to get few fast levels or if i'm farming something in normal), or if everyone's dead so small wolfies can take boss attention busy while I am resing healer. In dlc vets it's quite rare scenario but worked several times.. but in base vets it's handy very often and allows to complete HM pledges even with absolute noobs. Though those bosses can be soloed by WW dps, so it's not about tanking, but more about replacing dps.

My experience with having an unexpected WW for a tank, was the rest of us having to run around and burn through resources until dead because nothing was aggro’d to him. I would have much preferred to have him as a WW “healer” than a WW tank if he was that desperate to DPS instead of filling a proper role.

My sorc tank is one, but her infection dates back to the days when you got the 15% stam recovery passively. One of my DK tanks is also infected, but has never leveled the skill line. I'd never, actually, slot the transform, much less use it, in group content.

I tank but I don't bother using finder I just ask in guild chat, so does most tanks :)
Note that banish cell 2 has two dps checks. No you don't run into this often but then leveling my tank I got into an group who wiped on both in normal, I was leveling with random dungeon so skill-point starved and focused on tanking, I could always stuff her into briarheart and VO for hunting skyshards afterward.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

The tank in my WGT run had 15k HP, it was enough I could keep him alive if he remembered to block
(Can WW form even do that?) but he was squishy as hell. shouldn't have been in tank role if he wasnt built to take some punishment. I had more HP than he did by 3k at least.

Just because they are using WW form does not mean they are actually a fake tank to start off with. However, once they change to WW form they are no longer a tank and cannot effectively perform the most basic requirement of a tank.

    So kick them.

I hate kicking people and only will if they are either being an arsehole, or if I cannot clear the dungeon with them since they suck THAT much. but if I have to to finish the dungeon I will kick. if said person was NOT an arsehole I will still be nice about it and ask them to come back when they have better gear/more CP/better build.

Then deal with it if you hate kicking people. Not sure why one would even bother creating a thread about it if they did not think it was a big deal.

Try out the Dressing Room addon. It makes swapping sets a breeze! I prefer enabling Dressing Room to auto-open when I go into inventory and use the UI for my swaps, but it's super easy to set them up to key binds if you want even faster swaps.

13/15 of my alts are currently geared and skilled as tanks and they all are a button-press away from switching to DPS when I want to do solo content. It's easy peasy.

Any time my Healers get stuck with a fake tank WW I always hear Yakety Sax playing.

    https://youtu.be/Zat9CRfUr-E?t=80

What's a fake tank WW? Literally anyone actually using the WW transformation while "Tanking" (does not include those who just happen to be WW but aren't actually using any of the abilities at the time). They're just the worst and there's no such thing as a good one. They're racing around everywhere, scattering mobs as they go, cause the only thing they care about is eating corpses and not losing their transformation. It's often pretty funny, as far too often when those WWs rush ahead, they quickly get wiped by the boss before the rest of the team manages to catch up. As someone with self-sufficient builds, watching the chaos as everyone else is running around dying is usually pretty hysterical, the fact that it usually makes the run drag on far longer than it needs to still makes it pretty annoying. Anyone who thinks you're able to WW Tank the right way, you're not, and no one else thinks you are. Please stop wasting everyone's time.

Switching sets isn't that hard with Alphagear, the add-on I use. Yeah, it's a bit buggy, but the overall hassle is low.

A bigger problem for me is that tanks should have a huge number of attribute points in health, so even when specced for DPS their damage is quite low. One very partial solution is to wear armor sets with cheesy but perhaps fun procs, which are relatively weak if you're basically competent at damage, but look relatively better if your other damage choices are bad. E.g., since @DarcyMardin likes crows in real life, I recommended Unfathomable Darkeness to her, and she used it for a few weeks grabbing skyshards or whatever for a thank.

There is no such thing as a WW tank since no one can actually taunt while in WW form. You cleared the dungeon fast because you had 3 DD, not 2. It really is that simple.

If they are going WW then are not this DoT tank you speak of. They are not a tank at all 15 seconds after they go into WW form as they cannot refresh that taunt. It is like a DD that does not actually do any damage.
