Guild UI - what does it mean when numbers are gold vs white?

Okay, I gotta ask because this is something I can't stop noticing, but I cannot find what it means. I see no real pattern, there's no in-game tooltip on console that explains it, and searching here and Google is yielding nothing.

You know how if you go to the Social screen and you highlight a guild, the bottom right corner will show two numbers: the number of guildmates currently online out of how many total members the guild has.

Sometimes, those numbers are white. Other times, those numbers are gold/yellow. Whatever the color, ALL your guilds look like that, so it isn't different from guild to guild or different between a guild you're a member or officer of vs a guild you own.

Anyone idea what the colors mean and why they are sometimes randomly different at random times of the day?

Can you post a screenshot? I'm having a hard time mapping what you're describing to my UI. Maybe my mods have just changed things around completely, or perhaps this is a console vs PC issue.

I have been playing on PS4 since console launch day. I have never noticed that the Members Online/Total Members tallies are any other color but white.

To show what I am talking about (and prove I'm not crazy)...

Here are two screenshots taken around 11:20am in Auridon this morning, one of a big guild that I GM and one of a small guild I am a member of to show guild size, number of players online, or guild ownership doesn't seem to affect it:

And here are the exact same guilds at 11:35am in Daggerfall this morning, now shifted from gold to the more common/usual white:

Here is the full screen so you can see what I am referencing - these numbers appear in the bottom right-hand corner on the Social--> Guilds screen on PS4.

What do the colors mean? Or am I literally the only person who has seen or noticed this? Am I the Chosen One?

Maybe gold means the GM is online?

Negative. I am the GM in the top photo of 498 member guild. It was white this morning, gold at 11:20, and white again at 11:35.

And also negative because the GM of the 98 member guild has medical issues, and has not been online in the game for several weeks. Yet those numbers also fluctuates between white and gold. The only consistency is ALL guilds are white at the same time or ALL guilds are gold at the same time.

The color change seems to have no obvious trigger that I can figure out, which is why it’s driving me crazy and driven me to post it here to see if anyone has any ideas I haven’t thought of yet.

So, sounding like nobody has any clue what the colors mean... or noticed the colors even randomly change.

@ZOS_GinaBruno - can you or someone spare my sanity and let us in on this unexplained phenomenon?

Same thing happens with friends list.

Could it mean that more than x of those online are in Friends?

Pretty sure it's a visual glitch. Means nothing technically. I get sometimes with my guild.

    Never saw that myself.
Are they only yellow or white? Or is red also an option?

I only noticed that at least one of the guilds you showed is AD and it showed yellow in Auridon, but white in Glenumbra.

So these are the things I would try out to see if anything changes:

    - Check your EP guilds when you are in an EP area - are the member numbers coloured? What about non-EP areas?
    - Login with a character fitting the guild's alliance and one where it doesn't fit. Does the colouring change?

These are my hypothesis about why it's sometimes one way and sometimes the other. But I have no idea, if it's actually related to those ideas. And, as I said, I've never seen it myself (but I'm also not checking the guild UI that often).

The UI element used to display the number of guildmates currently online is used for several other purposes in various UI menus.
I think it becomes gold whenever you visit a fence while having at least one skillpoint in the Haggling passive.
I can't test this because i don't have access to the passive but looking at the code
    https://github.com/esoui/esoui
i can't imagine any other reason.

Re-use of the element without a reset is the most likely. That should be relatively easy to test, too. Just switch from any other display with a counter there and see if it changes.

Red is never one I have seen before.

The two guilds I specifically did snapshots of the colored numbers for was The PTKs - AD guild - and The Dragon Chasers - EP guild. So, does not seem related to whatever alliance the guild happens to be assigned.

Interesting. Not entirely sure how you think it might be affecting things in this case. Are you saying it might switch the guilds UI from white to gold if I have just visited a fence with my haggling skillpoints?

I could see that theory... if I had visited a fence when i took the screenshots. I had not. I logged into the game fresh, went to Auridon to do Jester Festival stuff, took screenshot, then traveled to Daggerfall to do Jester Festival stuff, took screenshot. All in roughly a 20-minute timeframe in which no fence was used or visited.

I usually see this happen after visiting a fence on a character with the thieves guild Haggling passive. It is just a visual bug where the formatting applied to haggled values at a fence is also applied to the online members count in the social UI. I've also only seen it in gamepad mode.

Final post for this thread - to answer those who also wondered this - @DyingIsEasy was correct. I must have not remembered fencing something before the Jester Festival quests in my screenshots.

I've been playing around with it and it is, indeed, because of that shared coding or whatever. If you have a skill point in haggling and you fence an item, that is what changes your members online notification numbers from white to yellow.

    Mystery solved!
