Why are some pied player deaths not counting?

My first guess is that the server determines whether it counts and there is enough delay between the effect expiring and you knowing that the effect expired that when you make the kill at the last instant, it is actually too late.

It’s annoying as player still covered in pie texture when they die 😕

But have achievement now - just a bit frustrating & others in guild also have noticed so wondered why.

This is such a poorly thought out achievement.

Boosting probably the only way to go.

Because the achievement requires an actual 'killing blow' which the others (Kill 40 Players, Kill 20 [class] Enemies) do not.

For the same reason that you can do 80% of the damage to a player in pvp and when they die via somebody elses draining shot you get creditied with an asstist despite doing a majority of the work.

Probably because the percentage of players cheesing the achievement will be better than 80% by the time the Event is over. It's an achievement of tiny value.

It's not an exploit - it's co-operation in a multiplayer game. Definitely cheesy tho

BTW, I saw the same issue yesterday. My best guess is that there is a one or two-minute cooldown between player deaths counting for the "Messy Business" achievement. There is definitely SOME sort of hidden mechanic affecting which deaths count and which don't.

Note that when you pie someone, it also puts your weapon away AND sometimes prevents you from bar-swapping for a few seconds. This makes it fairly difficult to use in real combat conditions.

I did the achievement the non-cheese way, because I wanted to be a proper empieror, since I'm probably never going to be an emperor anyway It was an exercise in patience and frustration, it took me 3 days and over 200 pies, because of targetting or animation issues, killing blow requirement, my suckitude at pvp... it seemed like there weren't enough pies in the world I'm just glad it's over now, and I can wear my title proudly... My first decree as empieror would be to banish pie-throwing from the kingdom, at least for a certain time, till I recover from the trauma

This was 1v1 and so know was getting in killing blow.

*Not involved in any ‘exploit’. I killed an enemy player in Cyrodiil after throwing a pie at him. That’s what the achievement says you have to do 😋

i tried to help my pve friend get the achievement but she was taking a long time killing me because i was on a pvp build. my guess is like someone else above said. probably visual lag in the texture having it remain up even tho they arnt actually covered anymore

From what I know it has to be YOUR pie and YOUR killing blow. If you get the killing blow but it was someone else pie the it doesn't count. Or maybe a sorc stole your killing blow.

Ditto what DarkShadow said, it HAS to be your pie most-recently applied AND your killing blows within fourteen seconds of the player being hit

14 seconds? Where did you get that figure?

But do now have achievement, was just curious as to why sometimes it counted & sometimes it didn’t - was my pie, and my killing blow, all within 14 secs (if that’s the magic number).

Just go nude or with just costume and let them pie you.

I use Strendaar buff tracker, and when you hit a player with pie they get a 14 second buff with the pie icon.

If you’ve been hitting them with your pie, and it didn’t get overwritten by another one, then it should be working. Granted I cheesed all but one of them but the only time it didn’t count was when I accidentally bursted my buddy after my allied partner hit them with pie. Afaik there’s no cool down because my enemy allied friend was able to kill both me and my ally partner within a handful of seconds and both counted for them

I tried doing it without cheese. I had the same problems as you. It should have been fun. There appear to be so many conditions to earn the achievement that it is pure frustration and no fun at all. And for what? A title? There are so many titles in the game that most of them are essentially meaningless.

The achievement and title are cool in theory, but the implementation is terrible. Due to the ridiculous criteria this is nigh impossible to finish in laggy Cyro without kill trading.

I suspect this looked better on paper, but I don't think it was particularly vigorously tested properly. However, having said that, just done it with some guildies and we had a tremendous amount of fun with it! We just met up in a quiet place then pied each other mercilessly!
