Plague Doctor is pretty easy to get and offers you a ton of health which it sounds like you are looking for. The set drops in Deshaan from delves, public dungeon and world bosses - or you can just buy it pretty cheap from trade guilds.

Ebon + Plague Doctor is kinda old school. Lots of health, and kinda chunky. Support that with a monster set like Lord Warden or Chudan and you should have a pretty beefy starting point.

Also, limited. You'll probably want to experiment with sets, and expand your repertoire as you learn the role.

Ebon is good for giving your group more health, so its a good set for dungeons but really shines in trials. Plague Doctor is the dropped set equivalent if you just want health for yourself.

The different sets that I use in various combinations for tanking (depending on the situation) are:
    • Ebon Armory (from Crypt of Hearts I & II)
    • Torug's Pact (crafted)
    • Roar of Alkosh (from Maw of Lorkhaj)
    • Akaviri Dragonguard (from Eastmarch)
    • Plague Doctor (from Deshaan)
    • Fortified Brass (crafted)
    • Automated Defense (from Halls of Fabrication)
    • Defending Warrior (from Aetherian Archive)
    • Eternal Warrior (from any of the 3 Craglorn trials)
Plus various monster sets. There are probably a couple of others I use sometimes that I'm forgetting.

Which ones you want to use will depend largely on the type of content you're tanking. In certain trials I'll change my gear a couple of times for different fights, and in trials it also depends on whether I'm the only tank or if there are 2, and what the other tank is wearing.

For most 4-man content Ebon + Torug's is a good combination, and pretty easy to acquire (because Ebon is easy to farm, and Torug's is crafted). In 4-man content the debuffs you can do with Torug's (assuming infused weapons with a crusher enchant on one bar and a weakening enchant on the other bar) will usually be better than the debuffs you'd do wearing Alkosh instead, because you won't typically be getting enough synergies to have a high uptime on Alkosh.

In trials where I'm the main tank and there's an off-tank wearing Ebon, for most fights I prefer to use Torug's + Alkosh to provide greater debuffs.

Edit: it's worth noting that as a tank you want to be providing the greatest debuffs and buffs you can, which is why Torug's and Alkosh are good sets for tanking. At the same time, though, it's more important for you to not die all the time, so if you find that using a setup like Ebon + Torug's isn't giving you enough survivability, then I'd drop Torug's for something like Plague Doctor, Fortified Brass, Defending Warrior, etc. and once you're more experienced and better able to stay alive with sets that do less for your survivability, then you can start using sets that are good for debuffs.

Not sure If you know this but if I remember right gear will keep scaling after level 50 until CP 160. Not sure which sets to use but I figured I should mention that just in case you didn't know.

Don't bother farming ebon until cp160, just simply use plague doctor + fortified brass and upgrade them in each 50-60 cp.

You can get 3 plague doctor jewellery easily in dolmens plus use any other two piece you find in delves where you go for the skyshards, and craft the rest from fortified brass. Monster set bloodspawn, easy to get the head from spindle 2, the shoulder will be harder because of the random chance.

Edit: note this is just an easy gear for leveling until cp160, after that you want a proper tank gear (ebon and such)

Get Plague Doctor until you get used to tankimg then grab Ebon. I only use Ebon in trials. If my crew is struggling eith health I either off heal (if we dont run with a healer which is usually the case) or I give them some purple or legendary food if they need that sustain and blue isn't cutting it. Im at the point where I can at least carry in some Vet HM's and have been helping people get the speedrun and no death achieves which gives me so,ething to do.

I forgot about Bahraha's Curse - I wouldn't use it for trials, but it's a great tank set for PUG dungeon runs, because it lets you be pretty self-sufficient and not have to rely too much on the rest of the group, while also snaring plenty of adds.

I've got a vampire DK who runs Bahraha's + Akaviri Dragonguard + Blood Spawn for tanking PUGs, and between the desecrated ground from Bahraha's and frequently popping Devouring Swarm, she can wade into big add pulls without worrying about whether the DPS can take them down quickly or whether the healer can keep her alive. It's a good setup for boss fights too (albeit lacking in debuff utility, it's still pretty good), but where it really shines is in those big add pulls that can easily overwhelm a bad PUG.

True, but whether Warrior Poet is useful or not depends on whether you've got any wardens in your group. If you're a warden tank or you've got any wardens throwing out heals in the group (not necessarily a warden healer) then Warrior Poet's minor toughness is wasted.

This is pretty solid advice. End game tanks probably carry more sets than any other role, and can be very dependent on content. That said, start with tanky/selfish sets until you get your feet under you, then start working on farming some of the obvious ones.

I dont pretend to be much of a tank, but I have one and have done pretty much all veteran 4 man content. Torugs/Ebon does the job very nicely. You can definitely go tankier, but you really shouldnt need to for most stuff, and its pretty easy to get this set together.
