2 pets magsorc build for pve (beginner friendly)

Heya guys, I know 2 pet magsorc is not the strongest DD in the game or even compared to other magsorc builds, I mostly play it cause it is so easy and does all the content fine and offers decent damage and survivability I guess. So I decided to write a small guide on how I play it cause I have been asked by some newer players (I am myself, still relatively new to the game. Only at 412 CP at the time of writing this post). But yeah, some people apparantly have a hard time finding how to play this build and i'd thought I'd tell people how I play it atleast. I made a video on it, but since I did not want it to be 2 hours long I did not add every option I know on what alternative gearsets and stuff are so I will cover that in this post. If any extremely experienced magsorc wants to add something. Feel free to point it out!

Parse at 412 CP Using no trial gear selfbuffed: Video:
Basic information:
2 pet magsorc is a very beginner friendly magicka ranged dps build that deals pretty viable damage and has great utility and flexability. This build focusses its strength in:
  1. Both very decent single target and multi target damage.
  2. Unending sustain (if you run out of magicka with this build you are litterly trying to do so)
  3. High magicka, relatively high health.
  4. The main set for this build is overland, not trial.
  5. Second set is pretty flexible and can be changed to trial sets if one wants to.
  6. extremely easy rotation.
  7. Very good on movement, not very RNG dependent.
Like all builds, it also has cons:
  1. 2 pets, means 2 taken slots on both bars.
  2. There are higher damage builds out there.
  3. big part of damage is done by pets. Pets sometimes act dumb.
  4. Can get boring.
  5. best ST setup still requires 1 trial set.
The best races (in order):
  1. High elf
  2. Dark elf
  3. breton
  4. khajit
Mundus stones:
I use lovers alot simply cause I tempt not to hit the pencap without it in the content I do the most. If you are in a trial group, or a organised group that has acces to tanks with Alkosh or simular sets that give group spell penetration or crushing effects. The thief and Shadow are better stones. Under 49% Crit chance I would choose thief. Above that Shadow. If you are khajit, thief tempts to perform better then shadow in most cases.

Food/Potions/Stats:

Blue magicka/health food and Essence of spellpower potions, go 64 into magicka stat.

Skill Bars and passives + gear:
Front bar:
  1. Daedric Prey
  2. Summon Volatile Familiar
  3. Summon Twillight Tormentor
  4. Inner Light
  5. Bound Aegis
  6. ULTI:Meteor (any morph)
Back bar:
  1. Liquid Lightning
  2. Blockade of elements
  3. Summon Volatile Familiar
  4. Summon Twillight Tormentor
  5. Power Surge, Empowered/Hardened ward, Channeled Acceleration. Pick the one that suits your needs.
  6. ULTI: Summon Greater storm atronach (Single target) or Elemental Rage(multi target).

Passives worth getting:
All Sorcerer passives, All destruction staff passives, all light armor passives, all racial passives, all undaunted passives, Magicka Controller (mage guild) passive, Alchemy Medicinal use Passive.

Optional passives:
Psijic order passives, Fighters guild passive banished the wicked and skilled tracker, vampire passives (if you want to be one for whatever reason).
Gear:
With this build we will always be running 5 light armor, 1 heavy and 1 medium armor. This for the 6% extra stats from the undaunted passives.
Undaunted sets:
Slimecraw, Ilambris(need to have flame enhancement on frontbar, or an inferno staff backbar for this to be viable), Zaans(if you dont mind being melee), Maw of the infernal, Grothdar(for multitarget in melee), or Slimecraw + zaans (for double crit 1 set).
Body set:
Necropotence (hands down best set on body for double pet setup).
Jewelry + weapons::
These slots have more options then body set cause multiple sets are strong on these gear slots, the following sets are very good. I have sadly not tested them all yet but I assume perfect siroria is likely to be the best with this build.
  • Perfect Siroria set.
  • Infalible mage set.
  • Destruction Mastery.
  • Mothers Sorrow.
  • Queens elegance.
  • Spinners set (only if no alkosh/crusher is used in group or you use no lovers as mundus).

On frontbar Use a precise Lightning staff of the set you chose to get the 5 set, unless you use mother sorrows (get infused).
On backbar use a infused Lightning or inferno staff of the maelstrom (or of the set you chose if you do not have acces to maelstrom staffs).
Enchantments:
Full magicka, frontbar: Fire Backbar: Weapondamage/spelldamage (berserking).

Rotation:
You must know how to weave light attacks(LA) and heavy attacks (HA) for this build, also barswap animation cancelling. If you do not know how to do that check it out on youtube.
Tips:
  1. Keep your potion up!
  2. Keep liquid lightning and elemental blockade up, refresh it early if you need to!
  3. Let Daedric prey drop off, if you do not do this well the damaging effect for your pets will stay up a 100% off the time. But the damage the spell deals itself will get lost in the proces!
  4. Keep your Volatiles familiar AOE torrent ability up!
  5. Twillight tormentors skill only needs to be used above 50% hp of the boss. If the boss has less HP then that, dont cast it!
Static Rotation:
Before engagement: Summon pets> Potion > Channelled acceleration/power surge(if you run it) > Twillight Tormentor skill

Rotation: LA>Liquid Lightning>LA>Elemental blockade>Pet1 skill(Animation cancel to frontbar)>LA>pet2(If this is the twillight tormentor, only refresh it every second rotation you do)>LA>Daedric Prey>HA>LA(after HA barswap) And back to start.

If you run Channeled acceleration or power surge make sure to keep the buff up.

Thanks for reading my quick guide! If you got any feedback, comments or whatever make sure to post them. If you are gonna be the guy saying there are better builds out there for DDs all I can say is yes you are right, but only if you can play them to their potential while this build is very very easy to play.

    Some thoughts:
    • Twilight Matriarch is the better choice for anybody who thinks "easy" matters. Having the heal is great, for yourself or for others as the case may be.
    • Obviously, giving up Bound Aegis or Inner Light gives you more skillbar room.
    • I find it more fun and flexible to make room for a spammable skill. I've just been using Crushing Shock, but Elemental Weapon would surely be better for those with the patience to grind it, except in cases where the interrupt matters.
    • When I duo, I can actually get low on magicka when I need to spam heals.

I recently began using a similar build but with a spammable. If you have you're LA weaving perfected and rotation down (keeping a maximum uptime for AOE's and pet buffs), and use the Atronach ulti (also, as well as your pets, has damage buff from Daedric Prey), 40K+ parses are very easy. If done correctly, those pets do a ton of damage.

I'm running this build essentially on my sorc, using heavy attacks but i'm wanting to find room for a spammable to see how that changes things.

it doesn't have the high ceiling of other sorc builds using frags and such but the damage is consistent and easy to sustain, and the rotation is simple so It's a good build for anyone who maybe struggles with rotation and is looking for a build that will at least have them putting out consistently decent numbers.

Here's a video, not all my gear is gold, main weapon isn't the right trait, some skills not fully levelled up but this parse is about 41.5, this was my first time really trying it, since then iv'e gotten over 43k a few times. On console so none of those fancy timer add-ons ;)

    Good post!

I run basically the same but with some difference on the skills and sets. Here's my setup 49k dps selfbuffed.

    Front bar:
    Daedric Prey
    Summon Volatile Familiar
    Summon Twillight Tormentor
    Elemental weapon
    Crystal frag

    ULTI:Meteor (any morph)

    Back bar:
    Liquid Lightning
    Blockade of elements
    Summon Volatile Familiar
    Summon Twillight Tormentor
Power Surge, Empowered/Hardened ward, Channeled Acceleration. Pick the one that suits your needs.
ULTI: Summon Greater storm atronach (Single target) or Elemental Rage(multi target).

I run siroria and mothersorrow. I tested with bsw and MS and necropotence and MS, but Siroria obviously gave the best damage.

I use witchmother potent brew for sustaining. My sorc is Breton atm.

You might want to take siroria off your list of potential sets. I havent specifically tested it with your proposed setup, but I am not sure you are going to effectively build stacks. It takes direct damage from single target abilities. Not sure I see any in your setup.

For years, I have always recommended a double pet build for new people trying to pull decent damage the first time around. I would certainly advise the matriarch for the heal, and as others have said, I might also make room for a spammable or perhaps an execute (although sorc execute kinda blows in PVE), but that is mostly a matter of preference.

That's not how siroria works. Yes, hitting something with a single target ability grants the ring under your feet, but it's standing in the ring that builds stacks. Your light and heavy attacks count as single target abilities and will therefore proc siroria. Standing in the ring that lasts for 10 seconds gives you a stack every 1 second. then the ring will vanish and another light or heavy will proc it.

So light attacks will get you the ring the first time? Funny, I run this set constantly and thought it actually had to be a skill (not sure how game distinguishes between ability and skills, tooltips says ability). You are right that standing builds stacks, but you need the ring in the first place. Now I need to go test. Haha

This is indeed very viable. I use exactly the same build in trials when I'm not playing the ez ha build. It is stronger obviously, only thing is I personally do not use siroria cause I don't like to be forcered to keep a areal buff up. So I settle for necro and ms which net me 50k solo test at 810 cp.

    Jewelry + weapons::

    Y u no mention Julianos?

Cause Julianos is not good with this setup due to the intense ammount of magicka scaling the pets have. Spell damage barely does anything in this build. Perfect Siroria would be a viable option for this cause next to its spell damage its gives a decent ammount of magicka + Minor slayer. Which do effect the pet build ALOT. With that being said julianos is not good for this set cause the 5 set near to useless for this particular build. Mother sorrows gives everything julianos gives except for spell damage and is way better for the build.

i did several tests and my highest dps was always while Inner Light is double barred. Maybe cuz i run full magicka setup, so res pool is jumping too much between bar swaps.

Might be, I dont run it double cause out of my own tests it results in a slight dps loss. Especially if you can slot channeled on backbar.
