Probaly the name is already in use...
Is it possible that part of the name is banned?
I'm not sure about ESO but I know in some games you can't have the letters G and M next to each other, even with a space in between, as a way of preventing players from creating characters called something like 'G M Tyrone' and then pretending to be a Game Master, but because it's an automated system it also prevents names which a human would never consider a problem, like Greg Thomas.
Same with swear words - if the last few letters of the first word and the first few letters of the second one spell an offensive word it can be banned.Probaly the name is already in use...
That comes up with a different message - it specifically says the name is taken rather than just saying it's invalid.
