Likelihood of ESO becoming a Xbox Play Anywhere title?

Id really like to be able to play on my laptop when Im away from my console and not have to restart all my progress on the PC server. This wouldn't be cross platform or anything, the servers would still be separated, but it would just allow Xbox players to play from their PC. Any thoughts or comments on if this is possible or being worked on to be available in the future?

i doubt it, because there is a case to be made for both the possibility of addons causing unfair advantage on the xbox servers and also, there is the part where it does create revenue for Zos from all that move from console to pc and back.

I can share play on PS4. There is a problem with it though. Some one has come out will scripts for farming so now we got mobile bots. Yay

It would still be like if you were playing on xbox, so im not sure how one would get addons, but then again idk the process to get them so i cant say for sure. But to address the second point of Zos profiting off of switching to console and pc and back again, that wouldnt be the case. Xbox play anywhere simply allows you to download the game onto windows 10 and pick right where you left off on xbox. So it would just be another way for xbox players to access their accounts, all while playing on xbox servers without the need to keep transferring from server to server. Its just a matter of Zos letting MS make it a Play Anywhere title.

you forget that people love hacking their way in to stuff they're not supposed to. and just because you don't know how to add addons doesn't mean others wouldn't.

frankly i'm sure this very question has already come up in Zos offices before. do remember they play the game too.
the fact it hasn't been implemented will prob have reasons. It might even be because it would require coding that they would not get any revenue from.

I do not think you will find the answer in this thread. Zos is not likely to answer and only they can provide the real answer.

I get hacking is an issue, but that can happen no matter the platform. And i never said that because i dont know how to get addons means no one else can, maybe you just misunderstood or my wording was poor, but i meant that on xbox addons are not possible so i wouldn't think they would be in this case of just making the xbox game playable on windows 10. However, im not sure of the process of getting addons is, so idk if it would be possible since now you're technically playing on a computer.

I've no doubt this popped up in their minds at the studio before, but having more of the community behind the idea the better.

Im also no coder, but based on when i spoke with a Microsoft customer support person, they said that becoming a Play Anywhere title is solely based on the developers giving them the green light to do so. So im not sure on how much extra work they would need to do to be quite honest.

    It will never happen
    1) the game would require top to bottom recoding
    2) that’s it

I don't think addons would work. You could install them on the PC of course, but to actually work they have to be installed in one of the games folders, and if the game is running through Play Anywhere and not actually installed on the PC I assume that folder wouldn't be there.

Not to mention all of the 'behind the scenes' stuff that needs to happen for the game to actually know what to do with the addons. Even if that was left in the console versions and just disabled it seems unlikely it would be possible for a player to get it working, so even finding a way to install the games on the console itself wouldn't work.

How so? I doubt the other titles that are Xbox Play Anywhere had to do anything as extensive as what you just said

Probably gotta wait for ESO to become playable on XB1 first.

Seriously, performance is trash. Major lag, UI glitching, constant disconnects, chat channels breaking, invisible characters, infinite load screens, CC break broken, bars not swapping, can't mount half the time... it's a mess. This is the worse I've ever seen the stability of the game on XB1. And since they are planning to drop Elsweyr before stability and performance fixes, the game isn't even worth playing for the next 6-8 months until the fixes roll in.

IMO, until they pull their heads out of their own backsides and fix the game, sub money is better spent on a 6 month gym membership. At least they'll maintain their equipment so you can actually enjoy what you paid for.

This. I gave up on Xbox ESO because it runs. so. poorly.

I've played a lot of games on Xbox One.

ESO was the worst performing of the lot.

Seriously, just get a PC. You can use your Xbox controller, (I certainly do), use add-ons legitimately, and in general, get a game that just runs better. Not to mention that multiplayer is free...

Consoles are dying. I suspect Project Scarlet will be very, very expensive. I think the days of cheap consoles are gone.

PCs? Quite affordable, especially considering the sheer spectrum of hardware available, and the RoI you get. They can do a lot more than play games, even if your build vision is just to play games.

You won't even miss out on Xbox exclusives anymore, as those no longer exist. (We have Windows exclusives instead)

I'd only do that if I could transfer my whole account. There is absolutely zero chance I would ever reset after years of gameplay, XP/CP/AP gains, gear farming (and upgrading), trait research, crown store collectible/crate purchases, skill leveling, mount training, etc. I'd just give everything away to my guildies and find a new hobby before that happens.

    Well, that sucks.

Not much I can offer there.

Myself, I just took the hit. Life sucks.

That’s weird because I generally have little to no issues playing eso on my xbox one. Yeah maybe once and awhile something will lag or not do what I want it to do but I get over it, no game is perfect. However I also tend to stick with pve content, but I’m aware pvp is a lot worse so I’m not sure if that’s what you’re mainly referring to.
