Templar tank build help

Yo I have a redgaurd stamplar that I play most have lots of spare skill points so would try to tank on her not many tank guides out there and alcast one isnt my taste any suggestion and what will by my main heals like green blood in DK?

I play a Templar tank quite a bit lately. Pretty similar to Alcast's though. Mainly just keep Restoring Focus and Extended Ritual down. For heals I just use Ritual of Rebirth, Repentance (if the healer doesn't) and Deep Thoughts, but there'd be nothing wrong with Honor the Dead for a burst heal.

Gear-wise I run Imperium, Torug's, Lord Warden. But I PUG a good bit, so like to give shields and resistances to group members. Probably not the best options in a coordinated group.

Unfortunately Templar tanks don't have a reliable healing ability that scales off max health like the other classes. I tried playing a Templar tank like a DK tank half a year ago and disliked the fact that it needed a healer for survival. You can generally use Extended Ritual, Sun Shield, and Breath of Life for survival.

For sets, I'd recommend a typical tank set-up: Ebon, Alkosh (or Torug's Pact), and Lord Warden (or Earthgore/Thurvokun). Front bar S&B and Ice Staff on the back bar. Front Abilities: Honor the Dead (or Meditate - Psijic ability), Heroic Slash, Radiant Ward, Pierce Armor, Restoring Focus, Ulti: Refreshing Barrier. Back abilities: Extended Ritual (or Blood Altar), Repentance, Ice Blockade, Silver Leash, Inner Rage, Ulti: Aggressive Warhorn.

5-1-1 set up for max stats. Reinforced on chest piece, infused on legs and hat; rest sturdy. Enchantments are up to you, but a mix of health and prismatic defence (until you reach the stats you want). It might be interesting to run Battalion Defender instead of Alkosh in dungeons if you want extra survivability. Mundus either Lord or Atronach.

bloodspawn/lord warden/thurvokun + automated defense + werewolf hide / ebon / torugs / brand of the imperiium in combination with empowering sweet you basically get for yourself and the group minor/major maim/protection/aegis constantly...

Templar tanks don't work the same as DK, so you'll end up similar to that Alcast build one way or another. Sun Shield is just too good to pass up as a templar tank and your heals will never be that strong. You could slot rememberance as your ult of course, but that's a "selfish" ult and usually your group needs warhorn or maybe Nova to reduce damage. Rememberance also prevents you from running around, blocking mechanics and reapplying taunt.

Your best bet might be a frost staff templar tank that could get a big enough magicka pool to make your heals stronger.

Here are the strategies I have used when it comes to healing/mitigating damage. My artificer is a stamina templar, with most points into stamina and some into health. He's done fine in trials and vet dungeons, and is a character rather than a "build" or whatever.

• Rally. This is his primary self-heal. It is consistent, reliable, and can provide a burst when needed or when it expires.
• Brawler. While situational, the damage shield you can rack up with this skill when lots of enemies are around is nothing to sneeze at, especially since you have high resists. Like rally, I always have this slotted.
• Engine Guardian. I use this because the character is an artificer, but he's basically invulnerable when the beam is going. Whether magicka, health, or stamina, the resource return lets him spam abilities for survival or whatever is needed.
• Radiant Ward. I go back and forth on this one, but with the changes to shields, it works out better than it did before since it benefits from your resists now. It also looks cool.
• Livewire. I use this because it fits the artificer theme to explode in gears, but it also gives him a regular heal when he is hit that scales based on how much is around him. There are other sets like this you could use for this too.
• Resolving Vigor. Since he is heavy on stamina, this is pretty effective as a heal. I don't bother slotting it most of the time because the above is more than enough for most content, but sometimes he uses it.

In the past, I have used Honor the Dead, but dropped it due to inefficiency. I also used sets that give me a damage shield with various mechanics here and there, but changed out of them once I became more comfortable with tanking.

I run a magicka templar tank, so I don't have any problem healing and I rarely run out of stamina. I run with three tank sets:

Light tank
Burning spell weave 4 light 1 jewellery
Plague doctor 1 heavy 2 jewellery, sword and shield, fire staff
Mighty chudan

Medium tank
Mighty Chudan
Plague doctor as above
Dragon akaviri the rest

Heavy tank
Mighty Chudan
Plague doctor s+b *2
Vvardenful heavy set (warrior poet?)

Light set is for normal dungeons and easier vet dungeons. Medium is for vet dungeons. Heavy for hard dungeons

I do about 6 to 8k dps in the light set against bosses, whilst taunting the bosses and harder enemies.

Others here won't like it, but I find it works really well. I do the job of a tank whilst adding some dps when in light gear.

Dark flare, reflective light, Jesus beam, destructive touch and pulsar are my main skills. And taunt obviously.

i play a templar tank and a sorc tank both magicka builds and of the two i prefer the templar for the healings. i find that the waving hand thingy and the healing ult save our behind quite a lot... thinking wayrest sewers 2 on galron lich when he sucks the life out of everyone... yeah that healing ult is tops, comes in handy too on some of the boss monsters like that giant dwarven spider in that room with all the levers and the healer cant quite heal us through the poison for whatever reason - even if i have to pause for a few seconds. i started with alcast for sure but i use a shock staff for the mobs and a frost staff for the bosses and i have lava pools swirling around me from the monster set (havent got the character to 300 to hunt for thruvokun yet) and its a great play. you could probably adapt it to suit your stamina build.

I usually play dlc hm without healer , dk, nb, warden n sorc tanks, but i would not do it as templar

It really depends on what you want to tank. If you just want to be a solid tank for pledges, and your group isn't overly concerned with meta, then templar tank is fine.

Most groups will want Ebon/Alkosh/Lord Warden b/c it's the go-to meta stuff. But if your group isn't as concerned, you could run sets that make up for what Templar lacks for tanking which is Crowd Control and Self-Healing. So you could use Swarm Mother for pulling mobs in, or run extra stam for being able to make high use of Silver Leash and even Bombard from Bow line for a CC. You could drop Alkosh for something that helps give you more healing like Bahraha's Curse or Battalion Defender if needed - though if you aren't doing super hard stuff you may not notice the lack of self healing vs. a DK/Sorc/Warden tank. I usually only notice how bad my self healing is when I do end game hard mode vet trials or newest dungeons. Breath of Life/Honor the Dead will do you ok for a quick burst heal (esp in a smaller group where more players mean more people to get the heal) for a lot of content, so it could work fine for you.

In the end, it will really depends on what sort of content you will be running and with what type of group you are with. You'll end up getting feedback and opinions as is stands for every level of gameplay when most of them might not even matter to you.

As tank, a proper tank, you will not have enough magic to have temp heals be worth it.

My dk tank has lots of set like ebon , plague , akaviri , galenwe , eternal , greenpact , warden and bloodspawn problem is the skills , Ive played warden tanks very simmilar to dks but templar I've no clue ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm not a good tank player but really sucked as a templar tank (vs DK) 'cos of lack of cc. DKs and even Wardens are much better able to stack the trash mobs so dps can AOE them down. I looked up the "bubble tank" build (from a couple of years ago) but I still sucked.

The answer these days is Time Stop from the psijiic skill line (requires summerset and some grinding of the quests) - it's not ideal for mobs but better than nothing.

As a tank, you may need to unlearn some skills. Jabs are great for solo dps, but you cannot block-cast them - so don't even put them on your bar if you are tanking, as you MUST be able to block at all times.

I have 10 points in health and the rest in magicka. Will food and plague doctor, my health runs from 30k to 46k depending on which tank gear I wear I have between 22k and 30k magicka depending on the set. I have no problem healing whatsoever.

I assume you guys are talking about stamina builds, but you really don't need much stamina to tank. It really is a myth.

When I played a Templar Tank, I used exactly what used to keep my Stamplar alive. Repentence to sustain during trash and Boss fights with adds, which also heals allies, and Vigor. You need to use Restoring Focus as well if you go that route. If you use BoL or Honor the Dead, choose the other morph. If you run Radiant Aura instead of Repentance, cast it every 15 seconds to gain some magicka sustain, esspecially when the mobs are dense.

Edit: As stated above, Time Stop does the job in a pinch for a CC

The main problem with templar tanks is that most of their utility and group support is provided by the healer or dps.

If you are looking for a tank that can run dungeons with 3 dps and keep everyone alive, I would say templars are better tanks than DKs if you build them right. Templars just aren't made to be the current meta endgame tank.
