Such a dumb oversight

I changed my character name. His inventory was full of items I made for writs. I log in, pick up writs and drop them off. I make items once a week or so for this reason, to save me time later.

I logged in today and had to delete all the items I made as none of them count any more since it says created by - and has his old name.

When I deconstructed all the items, I know in the end I lost a few stacks of each material.

I wish I had known this was the case before changing his name. Hopefully anyone else seeing this post will know it can happen to them as well.

Same thing applies to rings of Mara, by the way. Do not name change a character with those, unless you're willing to make a duplicate character, or change another to match the ring.

This is weird, serious weird, I always assumed writs and even more ring of Mara was linked to character ID not the actual name. That the crafted by used the caracter id to find name from database.
Even if character name is stored in item name it should still be linked to id.

Make sure you keep renewing your subscriptions and buying crowns. That way zos has incentive to fix all these bugs which have been around for years.

Unless things have really changed and I didn't notice because I normally do writs on one character; turning in normal writs with items "someone else" made shouldn't make a difference.

Normal writs need crafted items; doesn't have to be crafted by you, but crafted by someone.

Master writs need to be made by the character who accepted the writ.

With consumables it doesn’t matter. With clothing, woodworking and blacksmith, you have to craft it on the character who turns it in. Been this way for years.

I believe it does matter for consumables, as well. Might have been a more recent change (in the last year or so).
