definitely not a dumb question. its not just any daily quest, its specifically a quest you unlock inside a den to go and rob a place. you need to do a few main story quests, including the one you get at rank 3 thieves guild skill line, and after you finish THAT, you get a side quest from Velsa (she leaves you a note) - that is what unlocks heist dailies and that is the quest you need to do to get TG ticket.

In Hews Bane go to the outlaws refuge. There's a guy in one of the rooms with a large map pinned to a wall. These are the specific daily heist quests you need to complete to get an event ticket.

Just be aware of the prerequisites - you must have reached a certain level in the guilds to get the quests:

One Event Ticket for the first Sacrament completed each day
Sacraments are unlocked by reaching Dark Brotherhood Rank 2 and completing the quest “A Lesson in Silence”

One Event Ticket for the first Heist completed each day
Heists are unlocked by reaching Thieves Guild Rank 3 and completing the quest “The Long Game"

I did all the main quests required I just couldn't figure out how to 'open up' heist quests afterwards

Agreed, they are a pain in the rear - I don't like them at all. The things we do for event tickets.

When you enter the Thieves' Den from the back entrance (the one that's not in Hew's Bane proper but to the left of the wayshrine outside the city) the quest board and the Khajiit you have to talk to to do the heist are directly on the left side, just a few steps in. :)

They're super easy if you don't care about the additional rewards. Just treat it like a delve. Run in, kill everything that gets in your way, grab the loot, get out. Takes a few minutes, no silly sneaking, still grants an Event Ticket.

Agreed, trying to do this in the time required to get the extra rewards is a major pain. And those extra rewards aren't even really worth it, the thieves guild motif for example you can get just as well with the normal reward box.

At this point, it's pretty much just OCD for me. I spent too much time trying to get them perfect in the past (for better chances at the motif).

I gave up. I wanted to unlock the book, but just... getting them done perfectly is simply not fun enough for me to keep trying. ah well.
