It's time to move away from Dungeon DLCs? Queue times make the game incredibly frustrating as DPS

I'm not sure why this is a thing. Every year ZOS adds several new Dungeons as paid DLC, thinning and thinning and thinning the playerbase focus more and more.

Queueing for a random Normal dungeon as DPS can take 5~ minutes which is pretty high, and queueing for a specific dungeon is minimum 15~ minutes to an hour.

It's time to either:
  • Stop releasing dungeons, and/or DLC only dungeons. Maybe release the dungeons for free and make Battlegrounds access paid? Or make other kind of content.
  • Start allowing parties of 5 for Dungeons (3 DPS, 1 Tank, 1 Healer)
  • Start allowing any role for Normal dungeons (most parties will be 4 DPS).

I don't think it will be healthy for the game to keep releasing more and more dungeons. Playerbase is already spread too thin and queue times will be higher and higher, reaching the already unplayable levels we have.

    I’m not sure I’m tracking your argument here... you are saying that every year ZOS releases new dungeon DLC thereby “thinning the playerbase” are you saying that you think people are leaving the game since they are releasing more content? It seems to me that the que times are just a function of the amount of people queuing for dungeons, and not how many different dungeons there are. Unless, of course, few people have ESO plus, but everyone I play with has it, so I don’t think that is so. In any case, I enjoy the dungeon DLCs when they come out. Maybe try rolling a tank, or healer if you are tired of long que times?

    the dungeon time queues have nothing to do with dungeons/dlcs or whatever. there are just more dds queuing up for it than healers/tanks. had a run of vFL where i had to change to another tank character (last boss hits too hard if i dont have wings) and asked the healer to swap to a dd because the other two dds just werent good. u will have hard time finding good tanks and heals in queue because they usually prefer to go dd for guaranteed damage, while most of "casual" players deal less damage than what "elites" can deal if they go in the dungeon to solo it (resource management and defense lowers dps), so everyone ends up preferring to queue as dd.

    if tank doesnt know how to play he gets blamed for group wipes etc pretty fast.
    if dd doesnt know how to play tank needs to survive longer and even help resurrecting sometimes.
    no matter how i look at it tanks draw the shortest straw.

    if u want dds to have shorter queue time, i have an answer for u. go tank. but most people just dont want to tank with pugs.

    Its not the player base as a whole that is spread too thin, its that everyone wants to be a dps leaving few tanks and healers to go around.

    Additionally, I (and a lot of other players) dont queue for randoms on a tank. And to a lesser degree healers.
    As we dont want to get stuck in a bad group (hard to carry a low dps team on a tank)
    We instead use friends and guildies to form groups.

    ZOS will likely keep releasing dungeons so you are left with rolling a tank or healer for insta queue, or use friends or guildmates to form groups.

    The more time you spend in a dungeon the less time you spend on the crown store. This is not something ZOS would allow. So they make sure there's no tanks and no healers. I experience 45 min wait queues as a DPS and ~10 seconds as a tank. Working as intended. Go buy some cosmetics.

    A better solution would be just to bring back the support role and give them a spot in dungeon groups. A lot of people who play DPS only do so because there is no longer the support role vacancy for them to fill. That would reduce the amount of DDs and give the developers more options when it comes to adding strategy to the combat - allowing them to move away from the tiresome mechanic-driven fights they are forced to rely on due to a shallow combat system.

    You can gather a group for that and queue in. Do it randomly and you’ll have a mess of aggro in all those runs

    Your complaining about dungeon queues being long on a dps I main a tank I also use my healer frequently I have no real wait time for dungeons yes I have been saddled with poor dps at times also got good ones. Everyone wants to be a damage dealer but no one wants to tank or heal really for that matter. 4 man dps queues may help but then certain bosses and mechanics you actually need either a tank or a healer. A solution would have to be make support roles more appealing to play.

    DLC doesn't alter random ques at all. Specific que yes as it would require finding players for that content that own that dungeon. Its an issue with any game with a trinity.

    So group que looks like this:

    Tank Que
    1 2

    Healer Que
    1 2 3

    DPS que
    1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15

    So it forms groups - Tank/Heal/DPS/DPS
    Group 1:
    1/1/1/2
    Group
    2/2/3/4

    Healer in que now
    3

    DPS in que now
    5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15

    At least thats what it seems to me. If you add tank #3 it will grab healer #3 and DPS # 5 / 6 immediately and pair them <Tank instant que>.

    I specifically don't buy DLCs that have dungeons in them so I can remain out of them when going random dungeon. Base game dungeons are enough for me with the way they scale up the difficulty with every new one they put out with no real way to inch up in power besides champion points which they have capped off atm.

    Qued, got in vet frostvault in less then 20 minutes (and finished by the way ;) ) yesterday as dps. Don't see any problem.

    Like special rewards(like more xp, more gold, extra items, free cp changing after playing a support role) for doing dungeons as tanks and healer
    Immediate solutions include increasing motifs rewards chance by 10-20%

    Its more difficult to play as a tank than a healer. With a healer u can easily do 10k+ dps in overworld pve. Playing as a tank u cant change u r cp regularly (which does not help with dps) and overworld content takes a lot of time to complete.

    After 3 years of avoiding the group finder, I did my first two randoms ever this week and both queues lasted 40-50 minutes. I just assumed that was the normal wait time. In the past I always gave up and left the queue.

    I'd like a "chaos mode" checkbox. If no traditional group can be formed, but 4 players have checked the box, just stick them together regardless of role.

    People who check the box will queue fastest. People who don't check the box will still queue much faster than before. Nobody's dishonest. Everyone's happy.

    Playing as a tank on pc is simple with the Dressing Room addon. My main and most played char is a tank and with the push of a button he is in dps gear and overland mobs melt. Even leaving all 64 attribute points in health he destroys stuff. If you are not playing on pc I feel bad for you because having played both console and pc I can say that pc is definitely more enjoyable.
    As far as the main topic of this thread I don’t even know what to say to these mongos that want to do away with DLC dungeons. They are flat-out the coolest part of the game and I always feel like people clamoring for their demise are trying to kill the game.

    Back then I did random normal queue time was 10-15 minutes average 12, just enough to do the delve daily in queue.
    Same for non dlc vet pledges.
    If above 20 I just left queue and queued again and this tended to get me in fast.

    Grinding just make you go in circles.
    Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

    You know you can just team up with 3 buddies and just walk into a dungeon?

    Or do you really just want the random daily reward?

    If so, why not do your bit and help out by rolling a tank or a healer and doing that every other run.

    My experience is very different from the one portrayed by Op but I am not using the group finder to find groups. I use guilds, like minded individuals who want to play the dungeons for gear/fun/working as a team.

    I view the group finder as a secondary option to do what I want to do in ESO.

    DLC dungeons are for players who focus on combat mechanics and builds. I doubt they use Dungeon Finder. What I see in my community - it is about 3k ESO players - is people trying to build a special team for a special purpose. To do a hardmode, to do a specific achivement, to farm something. They don't need randoms.
    I wouldn't care at all about this, but ZOS are locking the lore behind this elite dungeons.
