Some Characters Won't Load After Patch

Patch only took 30 minutes to download. First character loaded just fine, then froze. Re-logged, and only newer characters load. Older characters (and ones parked in the GP Villa) won't load and lock up ESO. Get message 'ESO not responding'. Any advice?

I'm having the same issue; I was able to load two of my characters, but one in particular locked up ESO so bad I had to restart out of it. Twice in a row.

@OP did you try updating your drivers and did it work?

Well, driver update didn't work. Made crashes less frequent tho, it seems.

It is not necessarily video driver. I have a total of 1 character that did load, twice, after patch, then crashed to desktop while I was trying to ride to drop of writs. I am now completely unable to load her in, while all other characters, with same addons, settings, and actually location, load perfectly. Something strange is going on.

I'm getting this as well. Everything was fine, until it wasn't. Now at least one toon can't be loaded regardless of add-ons or anything else.

I had the same problem with one of my characters, it was like half a year ago, I guess.
Next day everything was fine again.
IIRC, I made a report in support menu in-game from another character, said them the bugged character name, and that's it.

Tried updating my graphics drivers, did nothing to help the problem.
Since then I've found another character that crashes on load the same way as the first, bringing my total to 2/4 characters I've tried since patch unable to load or be accessed at all.

The characters that work, work fine. No crashes, no issues at all.
The characters that don't work, get about 3-4 seconds into loading before the game locks up.

Update: I just went through the list; 4/8 of my characters are inaccessible to me. A full half my roster.
Update 2: Tried a repair through the launcher, didn't resolve the issue.

Can we get some attention on this @ZOS_GinaBruno because apparently I'm not the only one having the problem, and seeing as how unaffected characters are completely unaffected, many more players may have the same issue and not know it as they may have just not yet tried a bugged character.

I'm in this boat. 1 out of my 14 characters won't load (13 others are fine).
All drivers are up to date and I disabled all addons yet just this one character won't load.

Just talked to a friend of mine, he's got the same problem. Exact same scenario; character freezes on load.
He's got a support ticket in too. Maybe he'll get a reply, I still haven't.

I'd expect it to take at least 3-5 days before you'd get a response from CS. Especially for a problem like this where a) you wouldn't be the only player reporting it and b) they might prefer to give their tech people time to actually fix the problem so that when CS does respond, it's to say "Problem solved".

I was able to fix it. Fair warning, the fix makes no sense but then again the problem made no sense so, I suppose that's to be expected in an odd sense.

Anyway, try disabling ALL Add-ons and Libraries and try logging in on the characters. If they load in fine after that, you should be fine to re-enable add-ons and such.
-side note: don't forget to update your add-ons too

I initially didn't think the issue was with add-ons for two reasons; One because out-of-date add-ons are disabled by default on char load so I reasoned they couldn't be causing issues because they're not enabled, right? And two because numerous add-ons were all working just fine on other characters with 0 issues.
Those two things made me fairly certain they weren't the issue but, after three days with no reply and the server maintenance not fixing the issue... I decided to go at it again myself for another troubleshooting pass; and having ruled out the probable, I decided to go for the improbable.

I don't know if this will work for everyone, and I can see that at least one person says they already tried disabling add-ons and it didn't help them but hopefully it'll resolve the issue for at least some of you. If it does, don't forget to spread the word

I am on console with the same problem.

I think it may have to do with undaunted weapon skins since I was having the issue only on my dk originally which had the staff skin.

I finally changed my wardens staff skin yesterday and now I can't even log onto him now and once when I did I was kicked in minutes with an error that too many users were logged on at once.

I tried disabling all my mods...everything....yet still could not log in with that one character. I sent a ticket and the ZOS team at first said it was a bug with one of my buffs (which they removed) but I still couldn't log in. I sent them the Game Consultant Report and they then moved my character (from Vvardenfell to Stonefalls) and I was finally able to log in.

Honestly the ZOS staff were very prompt and helpful with my tickets and email replies.

note: there is an issue for those riding silver dawn argent cfharger. Open ticket, ask them to remove it temporarily so that you can dismount, and then have them readd it. Very much a known issue at this point.
