Is Khajit the only viable stealth race now?

I want to make a stamblade stealth character. Reading the notes about the PTS, it looks like Wood Elf is losing its stealth bonuses. Does that make Khajit the only remaining viable race for a stamina stealth character?

For ganking they will have some advantages with crit damage and stealth radius, but I am not sure they would be the only one. If you fight outside of stealth at all, I kind of like Dunmar since I go vamp for sneak speed. No improved sneak but better stats fighting outside of stealth and fire damage resist. One could also argue wood elf speed could come in handy to get to roll into cloak and get away from where people are looking for you quicker.

There are a few sets that will make your sneaking ability top notch. Try Night Mother's Embrace (drop set in Deshaan) coupled with the night's silence crafted set. Tada, you now zoom in sneak and enemies will have a harder time finding you. Be sure to go 7 medium for the best returns from the sneak passive (improved sneak). If you are a vampire, be stage four and drop nights silence for night terror (found in stormhaven) for an absurd detection radius.

    Stealth is gear dependent.

Wearing the best gear for stealth, you couldn’t tell the difference between an argonian and a blacksmithing node.

Sure you could I suppose climb on top of their shoulders as opposed to standing next to them if you rolled a kitty cat, but come on.

If you want to pick a race for rp reasons then whatever.

I play mostly PvE, and was looking for an archer/thief type character. Wood Elf sounds like the ideal case, except when the changes go live, it will lose its stealth bonuses. I don't want to play Khajit for RP purposes.

Dunmer are my preferred race, but for stamina they aren't optimal.

Yep. ZOS thought it was a good idea to throw lore out the window here. Can't blame them. With Schick gone, there is no one to keep things on track.

I'm predicting a new weapon line for next year's expansion: assault rifles, to go along with the new battle royale mode.

That stealth detection bonus the Khajiit will get is nothing that will make or break a build in PvE - like others have already stated, stealth is mainly gear dependant. Plus, you can't really stealth your way out of a group dungeon or a world boss, so it helps to have some backup bonuses for those situations.
Also, Dunmer will be optimal for stamina with the next patch. So... just go Dunmer, I'd say. :p

Yes, Khajiit will be the only race left with a passive stealth racial bonus.

have one toon with this setup ... insane ... lots of fun

    vampire (Rank 9) stage 4:

[Dark Stalker Passive] While you have Vampirism stage 4: Ignore the Movement Speed penalty while in Crouch. Decrease the time it takes to Crouch by 50% during the night.

    Yes.

The second best stealth race is Imperial since they get a 3% cost reduction to everything.

Everything is absolutely viable for stealth. And I mean it. I can do a heist or a sacrament (and this is pretty much stealth end-game) on an Imperial StamDK with one hand while sipping my morning coffee. Night Terror and Night Mother's Embrace make you nearly undetectable for NPCs already.

If you want to be a dunmer, just be a dunmer! And don't listen to the doomsday cult who have already buried their Altmers and Bosmers like Deltia buried his templar 2 years ago...

Imperials also are kind of a stealth race now because their Red Diamond passive reduces the cost of sneaking by 3%.
This Bosmer was tortured to death. There is nothing left to be done.

Night Terror is a dope set.

If someone is building toward one attribute telling them can play anything is disingenuous.

I have always played what I want regardless of meta, AND I know the consequences. My magtemplar has been Bosmer from the start. Is he “viable”? To everyone who writes guides, no. But is it possible? Yes. The game would be unbalanced if he could barely heal if not an meta race. The game would be unbalanced if Nord Dks couldn’t complete TG and DB.

It would be impossible to sell an Elder Scrolls game where unless you pick exclusively A with exclusively choice 1, content can not be completed. Pick A and 2, pick A and 9, pick whatever, it doesn’t matter you will persevere - this is true.

If someone is purposefully building toward a goal then we can’t say “pick whatever”. If they are building toward a goal then A must go with 1. A with choices 4 and 5 does not fufill the goal.

So if they want to build the stealthiest character possible, then Khajiit is choice 1, Imperial is choice 2. That’s it.

All I know is my high elf mag sorc wearing nightmothers, night terror, stage 4 vamp and rally can stealth around pretty fast right by guards non-stop without any problems.

I beat TG without even having vampire on my high elf. But that isn't the point. The point is that some people like to min-max for stealth gameplay.

I can complete vMoL on a Redguard magblade, but that doesn't mean I can't optimise my performance further.
