Is DK's "Obsidian Shard" an immobilize ability?

for the purposes of the new "Mighty Glacier" set:

Obsidian Shard:

Slam an enemy with solid rock, dealing 201 Magic Damage and stunning them for 3 seconds.

Mighty Glacier:

(5 items) When you cast a snare or immobilize ability, or hit a target with a snare or immobilize ability, you and up to 11 group members gain Major Resolve and Major Ward for 15 seconds, increasing your Physical and Spell Resistances by 5280. This effect can occur once every 10 seconds.

I realize the answer is probably "yes" and it might sound like a dumb question but I gave up long ago assuming things about the wording of skills and sets :D

Sounds like a set that is good on paper but has no application when it should matter most. Then again, its worded so strangely, that I can't figure out if the casting procs it or if it actually has to hit the target. Assuming, like most of these types of sets, that you have to hit your target, I can't think of any dungeon or trials bosses that are not immune to snares or immobilization skills.

Could possibly work if you were running a siege group in PVP. Possibly.

But to answer your question, it looks like there is a difference between immobilize and stun:

    But again, who knows?

Casting an ability that only prevents the enemy from moving is an immobilize. Think bombard, encase, talons, gripping shards etc. While it is true stuns "immobilize the enemy", they are not immobilizations of their own right.

The best way to get use out of this is likely trials or dungeon groups with non warden tanks.

I just tested this on a target dummy, you can easily have a 100% uptime using a skill like caltrops or cinder. Both the casting of the skill (even out of combat) and then having the skill down under the dummy proced it every 10 seconds.

Very interesting. I had to look it up to see more specs.

Intriguing tank set. Could work with Ebon Armory if it procs on the casting once implemented. Though, it looks more suited for being a zerg set. PVPers are going to lose their minds.

EDIT: I wonder if Spawn of Mephala's web would proc this. Same cooldown and what is arguably a snare ability. Could be a lot of fun

Also wouldn't be useful for NBs in your group as they get those buffs passively.

Obsidian Shard is a stun. If you want a lot of immobilizes, use Talons, Destro Reach/Clench with frost staff or blockade of frost.
In DKs case, Warmth passive turns every Ardent Flame ability into snare, so it will proc Mighty Glac on cd on every whip.

Or you can just bring a warden and not spend a 5 piece set on it

Why? Anyone who isn’t already running major resolve/ward in PVP has something wrong with their build. At most, the set would free up a skill/monster set for some classes, though you’re still better off a) self-buffing or b) running with a warden who has Frost Cloak slotted. I’ll personally go for self-buffing every time, because if your dedicated major resolve/ward buffer goes down, your whole team becomes less tanky until they’re up again.

I'm totally with you, was just thinking out loud in terms of uses and ways to have fun with this set. Overall, it looks like a mess to me
