In light of he upcoming racial changes, should icons/symbols be added to all skill mouseovers to more clearly indicate the skills as a DD (direct damage), DoT, (Damage over Time), AoEDD, AoeDoT, Heal, HoT (Heal over time), etc to provide clarity at a glance when considering what skills will benefit from various passives?

Yes, it's something so simple that should've been done a long time ago. Would make allocating CP a lot more intuitive as well.

It's not a bad idea, but I'd think the entire classification needs a consistency pass, first.

...of course, the entire classification really does need a consistency pass.

I'd want it to be toggleable if it's intrusive (rather than just added to the existing tooltip info), but really there's no reason it couldn't just be added to the tooltip info.

I mean it would make a lot of things a lot easier but something tells me ZOS is afraid to do something like that because it might expose how messy most damage calculations are.

Well of course apply the same logic to whatever type of tooltips are shown on console... surely you all have something that shows a description...

At least specify whether it is direct or dot in the description.

Also, as @DeadlyRecluse said, the entire damage classification system needs to a consistency pass. Things you'd consider as dots seem to be considered direct, and some things are so inconsistent that they are considered dot to one aspect of the game, but direct to another (old NB path was the perfect example, used to scale with dot CP, but would proc Scathing Mage which required direct critical strikes).
