Apperance / outfit question

I’ve tried to figure out and or see if this is possible, but can you use the apperance of an existing piece of gear, I.e from a dungeon, or does it have to be a motif item for transmogrified effect?

Also, how does dungeon and trail sets fit into the apperance system. I’ve just hit 50 and still rather noobish with what sets I should be trying to get for stats. But is it a thing for people to get sets just for looks as well?

If you are wearing a piece of gear, and don't want to change it, just don't put a new look on it. If you are asking if you can use appearances from gear you once owned, no. Those looks are just based on motifs, so it would be the cheapest workaround ever. You need the motif to actually change to that appearance.

Thank you for the info. I’m not sure what you mean by “don’t put a new look on”
For instance I would like to keep the apperance of some gear I am currently wearing. Is there a way I could save these appearances for once I get better gear?

When you go to the outfit station, only place a gear/armor look on the slots you want to change. The others leave it blank (don't equip armors/gears). Then when you apply changes, it does not update the slots without a new look on it. (It's like it puts an open window on the nonchanged slots, where your base gear shows through) HTH

In order to use an item appearance in the Outfit Station, you have to know that Motif, motif page, or style page on one of your characters. This style knowledge is account wide for use in the Outfit Station.

Many of the group dungeon sets match one of the existing motifs. In fact, the set piece should display what motif it is next to where it says its weight.
    Example:

That chest piece we can see is the "Light - Welkynar" from the Cloudrest trial style, so to use it in the Outfit Station you would need to learn the Welkynar Chest motif, which would unlock the light, medium, and heavy chests for crafting (on that character) and for outfits (account wide.)

There are a few dungeon and trial sets that dont have an Outfit/motif equivalent, unfortunately.
