As all fictional races in science or fantasy fiction are simply a device to explore humanity in the abstract, best stick with racial definitions in appearance and culture. Let players choose their character's race because it appeals to them for reasons other than combat capability.

That's where the lore comes in.. Its been that way in games forever.. You want to be better at magic based skills then go for the races that have boosts in magic thanks to lore.. Prefer stamina then look at the lore and have racial passives that match.. Trying to make all races good at all things does not make sense to me in a game stand point.. Again must just be too old school.
