ESO's View Distance is getting worse?

So, Is ZOS just making the view distance absolutely worse each patch or something? Cause I swear the view distance wasn't this bad.. it feels like it's getting lower .. and this is the max range view.
every setting maxed /ultra

if this is true it would prove they are perhaps testing things and that's a good thing.
they always say they are looking to decrease lagg.

nice bow by the way, looks good on your character.

It's the bloodspawn arms bow incase ye were looking to find out but thanks.

and I never saw any difference with lag when it was maxed and not maxed but now view distance looks to be a bit trash

I checked a few of my panoramic screenshots from January, 2018 and it seems there aren't any definite changes. And just to check, I went to the same place you stand on the screenshot in a clear day, and I had the same view distance

    Maybe it was foggy?

"I am a nightblade. Blending the disciplines of the stealthy agent and subtle wizard, I move unseen and undetected, foil locks and traps, and teleport to safety when threatened, or strike like a viper from ambush. The College of Illusion hides me and fuddles or pacifies my opponents. The College of Mysticism detects my object, reflects and dispels enemy spells, and makes good my escape. The key to a nightblade's success is avoidance, by spell or by stealth; with these skills, all things are possible."

Render distance has always been locked at crappy on Console so no input from me. Being able to see Grahtwood without any woods was quite a sight.

DLC zones have better view distance. Craglorn has always been terrible (same with the base game zones).

Well on PC you can always use Hook64 to get rid of the fog, and increase object render distance. Here is a shot from a couple years ago I took in Craglorn:

Isn't that just atmospherics designed to give the illusion that the space is larger than it really is? If you look at the fogless picture above, the zone looks really small. It is small.

The problem I have is the fog is too strong too soon. It's a massive wall that blots out anything past 200m or so. And it is omnipresent in all zones.

Someone wrote a custom hook for GW2 that let's you lower the fog by a percentage which is much better than complete elimination, but so far in ESO that can't be done.

Since it can clearly be manipulated I do wish ZoS would give us the graphics option in game.

I've also felt that the view range has been reduced. I haven't had time to dig through my old screenshots to compare, but I just may. Has it been diminished to bring it in line with consoles?

The problem I have with programs that remove the fog from the game is that they present a whole host of new issues. I'm not against the fog existing, I just dislike how it seems to unnaturally appear much closer than it should, obstructing any potential view and making the weather look perpetually foggy. Yet seeing terrain from very far away without any hazing effect (what the fog is supposed to replicate, just take a look outside your window and you'll see how this exists), or seeing the sharp edges of zones also wrench me out of the game world.
For me I'll just stick with what we have in-game and pray that eventually ZOS will either improve the view distance setting, or even better, implement the same system that games like Skyrim or Oblivion used.

    Exactly.

I remove the fog and I turn on DoV to differentiate close from far. Not my favorite effect but overall better than the fog, IMO.

But you are right, removing the fog introduces other graphical ugliness at times, primarily low LoD on distant textures like border mountains in particular. Sometime they are just black silhouettes, lol.

If you look at the foggy picture above, look at the shrine in the middle of the screen. Up until then there is no fog at all, and then 10m behind it the world goes black (or blue in this case, lol).
