Good job for promoting ESO in sale discount on steam (for then giving no support)

Last week all steam players had to redownload the hole 70GB game + Patches (+30h download) and nobody got an explanation for this (still a secret mystery) with ESO support saying that is steam problem and steam support saying that they dont give support on ESO problems. Whitout forgetting all the login problems that steam players frequently have after game updates (waiting for the next elsweyr steam issue event)

Steam sounded like a bad idea when it first became a thing, and it has been trash for every game I've tried (been forced) to play on it.
It's the only reason why I haven't gotten further into Skyrim than a tiny bit.

Based on my experiences with multiple games (I tried to give it a chance), I now refuse to use Steam, and the constant appearance of threads like this only convinces me that I've made the proper choice.

It's easily the best gaming service, if that's how you describe it, on PC.

It sucks for ESO, never had an issue otherwise.

I've played since the advent of PC games without "gaming services" such as Steam, and I've been perfectly happy.
I have no need for a gaming service. Just give me the game, all by its lonesome, and I'll do just fine.

^ This, I have something like 20-25 games on Steam with a few of them being MMO's and none of them have had problems for the many years I've used the service. Yet ESO seems to have issues on it every few weeks.

Not sure who to believe. The guys who say they've been working on performance issues for 5 years only to have a major issue solved by a random player noticing how guild rosters update while in Cyrodil in their spare time, or the company that hosts 781 million unique games.

Steam and ESO might have some problems; but Steam is a great platform. Most games I won't even bother with until they hit Steam, I learned that after BF1, I have like 100 games on steam, 1 on UBI, (it was free), 3 or 4 on Origin, 1 on Bethesda's (the free vault builder one).

The truth is, while it might be good for game oligarchs to have a Balkanized gaming market, it's awful for players in terms of both pricing power and human relations with friends, small developers who need a platform, and medium sized developers who suffer from more piracy because of high distribution margins. As soon as I hear a company say they are building a game for their platform only, I lose interest right away, no matter what the title is. For me, the social aspect of Steam is big, and I wouldn't even know who was playing what without it.

I don't play ESO through Steam so I get to miss all this fun that happens.

BUT, last week when all this happened every game I have on Steam did an "Update" or whatever it's called for two days in a row. Some of the updates were 0 bytes but others were a few megabytes. Apparently ESO was affected much worse and people had to download the entire game again.

I highly suggest to those suffering through Steam to play ESO to get rid of the Steam version (yes, I know...it will cost you) and get the version directly from ZOS. Yes, I know. ZOS should find a way to make this happen at no cost but it hasn't happened yet and it's been well over a year these issues have been going on. I originally had a Steam version and luckily got out of it long ago.

these people... if you wanna show off to your friends what you're playing then its your own problem. Steam has problem not just for eso but for loads of different games, where it cant find your steam id for some reason and you end up crashing. I always before buying a game look out if it has stand alone version and avoid steam at any cost. WHy cant you buy standalone and add it to steam as non steam game and have that steam overplay if that's what you want?? Also steam tends to redownload games , why?? I dont know but after they update servers I had to update my skyrim SE and redownload whole bunch off gbs, if u have slow internet that can be a problem , but not for me.

Steam players shouldnt be allowed to post on these forums , the same way we are not allowed post on steam forums, so these steam fans would wanish from here

The only steam game I had problems so far was ESO.
This time it was steams fault.
    Last time it was ZOS.

I would just be happy if they would work together on the ongoing problems they have, instead of this.

Let's just hope it will get better.

Probably both. When it's a ZOS issue that is affecting Steam players the company usually indicates they are working with Steam to resolve the issue. When it's a Steam issue then ZOS states they can't help with it and that the issue must be resolved through Steam support.

The recent Steam issue of reinstalling the game is typically a Steam problem. You mentioned you've never had that problem before but if you research it you'll see that it does happen frequently with Steam-managed games and there are multiple possibilities as to the cause which include user errors, hardware errors, or Steam errors and that makes it difficult to pinpoint the solution and ultimately Steam will state to just re-download the game. That's been happening with Steam for years too.

I use Steam on some games and although the latest problem hasn't affect me I've had it happen in the past to where I've had to modify a game's manifest file to fix it and only one time I had to re-download a few games.
If you are angry about anything in this game you are only punishing yourself.

    B-grade gaming service >>> B-grade gaming service + A-grade gaming service

Adding Steam to games with separate launchers is just adding a dependency and another point of failure and adds nothing to stability or reliability.

I generally like Steam, but it is so annoying when games are running on separate devices. It can cause problems for a game running on PC A if I open a different Steam game on PC B.

obviously wasn't all steam players and by the sounds of it, it was a steam issue so maybe you should vent to Valve? or you just angsty and trying to be edgelord.

As others also pointed out, it was a Steam issue as it affected other games too. I noticed my game wanted to redownload, did a simple google search and it became clear that Steam's at fault and they are working on it - so I stopped it, after a few hours applied their hotfixed Steam client update, and didn't have to redownload anything. It was also a one-time problem in 5 years so cut Valve some slack .

However, it really is concerning why ESO patches regularly result in login difficulties... ZOS should know about this and so should Steam, and even if a permanent solution isn't feasable, ZOS could still allow all Steam users a way to log in without Steam (not just those from before 2016 or whatever), it's the least they could do to ensure that their players have a smooth experience.

I have 372 games on steam, and I've never had any issues. Now I can tell you all about my frustrations with broken/scratched or lost discs back in the day when I bought games in boxes. The best part was with games like the original Baldur's Gate that came out with 5 discs, break/lose disc 2 and you were unable to play the game.

I am sorry to say this, but even though I love ESO very much, I probably need to go and write a negative review on ESO's steam page. So that people won't make the same mistake.

It's quite cheaper to buy ESO via Steam, so naturally, I have a steam version of it, and some of my friends too. I would say, that it is not a very good experience to use Steam to play ESO.

But this actually is a ZoS problem as far as game versions go, Elite: Dangerous, Frontier gives you keys to let you launch alone or from steam. I bought that game from Frontier directly, and later they gave me a steam key so I could use that platform (which I often do). It's just a business choice from ZoS not to provide a key. As far as ED goes, I can launch it with or without Steam or even through another app, allowing fast toggles between VR and 4k.
