Outfit Styles?

So it appears that no matter what type of armor I'm wearing, I can alter it to look like any other armor? For example if I'm wearing all light armor I can wear an outfit style that shows me in all heavy armor? I used to mix heavy and light as a healer since I enjoy the appearance of heavy armor better, but I guess I could go all light now, although heavy is nice for survivability. But seems very odd that they let you just wear outfits completely different from what you are wearing. Am I missing something?

It's an option so that people can wear a "look" they prefer but still use the armor they need. Personally, I'm in favor of costumes.... I have one heavy armor tankden in the Treethane costume just because it fits her and her bear. Most of my toons get "costumed" eventually. I.... um.... think the armor looks in this game are pretty damn icky, personally.

Nope, you're not missing a thing. The outfitting system is wonderfully flexible. We've actually always had the ability to appear different than what we are wearing. For example, you've always been able to wear full heavy armor but look like you're wearing an evening gown - thanks to costumes.

I used to quite fret motif choices that dropped gear came in or that you had to make if crafting. Now I don't care because I can have anything display as any motif I know. Just wonderful!

I guess that is nice. I love the looks in this game, and have some costumes, just seems odd to let fully light armored mages appear to be wearing all heavy armor.

A little off topic, should healers have some heavy armor for sustainability?

@dreamer05 if by sustainability you mean not running out of magicka, no. Light armor is the best choice to support magicka. Most healers wear light armor. some may add a piece of heavy and medium simply to take advantage of the Undaunted skill line top bonus from wearing multiple types of armor.

If by sustainability, you mean what I call survivability (staying alive), no. As a healer, your primary defense is healing through whatever the enemy throws at you. That means powerful healing spells, fueled by plenty of magicka, magicka regen and spell damage (which boosts both damage and healing from magicka spells).
