TAUNT ON PVP

Why would devs make taunt not a thing in Pvp and immobilize, stun and fear are ok? Personally I like the Tank roll But got disappointed when i learned that you cant taunt players.

I might be missing something here but how do you think Taunts would function in pvp?

Taunts are designed to force NPCs to attack the tank but you can't force an actual user to attack you since, presumably, the player is free to make choices?

ZOS had a skill that allowed a tank in PVP to casta debuff on the target that reduced damage by 30% and increased damage by 30% only on the person you used the skill or something like that. I am not sure if this is still a thing or not. Come to think of it this might have been tied to a armor set.

They where going for a some sort of PVP taunt.

Certain sets operate via taunts in Cyrodiil. Tremorscale (monster set) has a damage proc chance on taunts. And Vanguards Challenge (battlegrounds set) makes the taunted opponent do half damage to all enemies except for double damage to the taunter.

But you can’t just force players to attack you like npcs. Veteran players will generally ignore tanks that aren’t damaging them in order to kill the tank’s allies first and rebuild ultimate off the tank after.

It would work just like it works on NPC and how fear works on everyone, instead of making you flee in fear you will just run to the person that taunted you and light attack him for some secs. Maybe im too noob to know if it would be too OP but in my head its seems ok.

When i build has tank for PVP if im not doing some kind of damage ppl will just ignore me and i dont have anything to keep them away from my allies just slow, snares and stuns sometimes i feel i need that extra CC to give my allies some space

    Funny comments btw lol

Being a vampire works. People run to you spamming dawnbreaker like there is no tomorrow.

"I am a nightblade. Blending the disciplines of the stealthy agent and subtle wizard, I move unseen and undetected, foil locks and traps, and teleport to safety when threatened, or strike like a viper from ambush. The College of Illusion hides me and fuddles or pacifies my opponents. The College of Mysticism detects my object, reflects and dispels enemy spells, and makes good my escape. The key to a nightblade's success is avoidance, by spell or by stealth; with these skills, all things are possible."

This would actually be quite interesting, as long as it was breakable like fear is. Basically exactly like a reverse fear forcing you to come into closer range. The ice staff heavy attack might be a problem though because it is too easy to cast and is basically free. Inner fire costs a skill slot so probably not over-powered.

how taunts should work on players is like this to keep it balanced.

"when you taunt a player he does X% less damage to other players and X% more damage to you( the player using the taunt)"

Maybe it turns your screen a shade or red would be a cool effect and at the very least it would highlight the tank so we know who taunted us.

why taunts dont have ANY effect in PVP is strange...

Well that function is kinda swarm mother, DK fiery chain, and fighters guild silver leash. But it would be neat if say the undaunted taunt pulled an opponent near, if not broken

Using snipe is the best pvp taunt. The second you lift your bow every enemy in your area is going to charge right at you. Maybe just run a bow with snipe on your pvp tank build.

((Sure, I know this is a month old...but....))

In SWTOR, you can use your taunts, which causes the enemy player to do less damage to anyone but you..

((I think the damage reduction was like 15%.))

And, I think in WoW you can pick a passive PVP talent that causes Taunted players to take more damage.
You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better than anyone else.

yeah the swtor one is perfect for ESO. It adds some real control over the battlefield damage and may break up zergs more.

OP, aside from the silly answers you're getting: the closest class that you will get to a pure "taunt" from your description (immobilize, stun, fear) will actually be the Necromancer. Here's why:

From the Tank tree, they get:

Bone Totem "Place a totem of bone at your feet that gives Minor Protection to you and your allies for 8 seconds, reducing your damage taken by 8%. After 2 seconds, the totem instills fears enemies, holding them in place for 4 seconds"

Clutching Grasp: "Summon three patches of skeletal claws from the ground in front of you, snaring your enemies by 50% for 5 seconds and inflicting Minor Maim for 5 seconds, reducing their damage done by 15%. Each patch can immobilize one enemy for 3.1 seconds."

...and not to mention a "pull" aspect to bring enemies closer: Beckoning Armor: "Wrap yourself in hardened bone, granting you Major Resolve and Major Ward, increasing your Physical Resistance and Spell Resistance by 5280 for 18 seconds. While active, enemies that strike you with ranged attacks will be pulled towards you once every 3 seconds. Creates a corpse when the effect completes."

But, don't freak out. It's not just Necromancer that gets your idealistic form of a PVP tank. With Swarm Mother: "When you block an attack from an enemy that is further than 5 meters from you, you spin strands of spider silk to pull the enemy to you. This effect can occur once every 1 seconds" you can get the same results. Pair it with a DK's Dark Talons, a NB's Fear, or a Warden's Gripping Shards (toss in Tangling Webs for the Fear) and you can get similar results.

    I hope this helps!

    Things that taunt players.

Snipe - because you are a squishy easy kill. Not a pvp tank.

Healing other players - because you need to be stopped. Sometimes a pvp tank but mostly not.

In your face doing damage and CC - because the player has no choice but to fight you. This is a pvp tank.
