You can wear whatever you like and make it look however you like. Any class can solo.

Edit: about appearance. With the eso+ membership you have a ton of options on appearances. I'm not quite sure how this is restricted when playing without eso+.

Both classes do well solo, Templar has a little more group utility if you do team up. And to go with Everstorm, once you learn motifs, and you'll automatically know your racial motif, you can change the look of whatever armor you're wearing.

I opt for mag templar just because imho it's probably one of the easiest characters to play, many solo and group utilities, hard to kill because of powerful spamable heals, the only downside of magplar is that he uses a lot of cast time/channeled skills which sometimes can be problematic.

I am doing my best, but I am not a native speaker, sorry.

I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver&Gold as a "you think you do but you don't"-tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game." - @AlexanderDeLarge

Really? I agree that solo and small scale Templar is better than DK but the do anything and everything class? What does that mean? Do you play templar?

I also suggest watching some videos showcasing the max level class abilities, that will give you an idea of what you can expect to have in your skillset and compare which class you like more. Your choice will depend on whether you'll want to be magicka or stamina based dps, perhaps on what races you'd want to play as, and of course simply on your personal taste.

For example I rolled a stam DK expecting to be an awesome fiery damage-dealer, only to realize that the stamina morphs of the class deal poison damage and turn green and you'll just apply DoTs and rely heavily on weapon skills. I still kept that char of course and I enjoy the stam DK build, but it helps if you do your research before making up your mind, there won't be any unwelcome surprises that way

It means if he ever wants to respec into healing he won't be useless unlike when he goes for DK, among other things.

I don't play Templar, but everyone and their grandma says templar is best solo class and best healer in duos.

You can wear all robes and make it look like you are wearing plate mail. You can wear plate mail and make it look like you are just wearing a bath towel.

Magicka templar is a great class to play when you're new to the game, and later as well. With the upcoming racial changes, pick a class that can play both stamina and magicka (like Khajiit or Dunmer) if you were to change that in the future. Khajiit scales great with templar crit passives.

You people saying Templar are the best solo class must not play Templar. Templars have the worst mobility and when you get outnumbered that's a death sentence. Templars might be simple to play but that doesn't make them easy. I could recommend it for a new player but don't think this class will carry you, which is how some might make it seem. The Templar was practically made to support a team and that's when they look like beasts but solo play is a different story and a point of frustration for me. When you realize that you can do so much to buff your team and provide resources for them but comparatively you can do so little for yourself, it's very bothersome.

(actually it's beyond bothersome, it's maddening)
